I know what dark crystal is :P
Dont really know what to say bout it cause mmorpgs arent really my thing, so I dont know what is in my place to say
Here are a few things:
This may just suffer what all other mmorpgs suffer, that they are not World of Warcraft, and die. Then again, Star Wars does have a big fan base. Then again so did Warhammer, and that didnt stand to wow
second, they give you all these classes to choose from, but lets be serious, why bother? Everyone is just gonna go for the jedi and sith classes. Why be a "smuggler" when you can be a force-powered, lightsaber wielding jedi. Granted, maybe the other classes will have something unique and good about them to balance them out with the jedi, but still, everyone is just gonna go for jedi
Like I said, Im not big on MMORPGs, but those are my thots. still a great vid tho Joe. :D

08.31.2009 - 18:36 | titanmatrixBounty Hunter all the way.
But I expect both sides to have some kind of Medic Class(and hopefuly a droid race so I can stick someone as the bacta droid).
And then I expect a Slaver or gangster class on the darkside.
The light side will most likely with their other slot get politician style class.

08.31.2009 - 19:09 | XariousThey've addressed this issue a number of times in various interviews, and it's not entirely clear how it'll be worked out, but Bioware disusses on numerous occassions that a specific class won't be geared only to perform a single function, like tanking, healing, or straight out damage dealing. They've mentioned, however, that with the skill tree's of the classes, healing will be an option and benefit the player and others, but will not be their entire purpose. I'm certain that they'll have mechanics for healing in raids or parties and such, but it won't be like the 'Healadins' of Wow where that's your soul function.

I've got more of a Boba Fett fantasy personally, and will be going Bounty Hunter... probably do my best to go an anti-Jedi spec :3
Anyways, Public Enemy, the problem with Warhammer wasn't that it wasn't WoW, nor is that the problem with many other MMOs... its that they don't put in enough effort prior to release then run around like chickens with their head cut off after release. WAR had 800k on release, far more than WoW release. It lost those numbers due to numerous screw ups and time wasting.

That so? Didnt really know that, I dont really keep up with MMORPGs but I have a friend who plays WoW, who just told me it was a game that tried and failed. I dont any more details than it failed
And what I meant by "it isnt WoW" is that if its a MMORPG that's gonna try to go against WoW, its gonna fail. Its happened to a buncha other MMOs already

08.31.2009 - 18:45 | tarvokI'm betting they are going to stick with the same classes as the star wars table top Rping game. I am thinking they are going to put the scout and noble classes in and maybe a droid class. and of course Jedi. I'm hoping for a force adept, screw the Jedi rules and the Siths over stated emo life style. I want the force with no limitations, but if I have to chose I would be a Revanchist Sith. as for the graphics well they can only do so much and keep the sys reqs in a safe range for everyone to play. but I would be expecting some patches to fix the graphics later on.

08.31.2009 - 19:02 | Xarious - Replies for SW:TORAngry Joe:
Never had your MMO Cherry popped? Luckily, in my humble opinion, you're making a great choice to wait for SW:TOR or Star Trek to do so (Although I've always been a Star Wars enthusiast, yet respect the trekkie world). Based on the playtests and speculations, gameplay will not only be comparable to SW:KOTOR 1 and 2, but also similar to Mass Effect to some degree.
Regarding the classes, I believe the Opening trailer holds more secrets to it and displays more than what is initially seen. The obvious classes stand out from the get-go (Bounty Hunter, Sith Warrior, Republic Commando's), but I believe there is much more to the perspective of the video as well. The site does include statements about other races joining the ranks of the different classes, so I'd imagine the Twi'lek standing along with the Sith warrior in the trailor hints to another class. At first, I dismissed it as the Smuggler class, but on a second look, the Smuggler class, even in regarded as Evil-oriented, will still side with the Republic. So if this is true, then the Twi'lek can't be a Smuggler, and rather hints at the smuggler's mirrored class. This could be the so-called Infiltrator that people are speculating, or some other quick-dashing class. Additionally, I feel the trailor is hinting towards nonhuman support characters as well. The site for SWTOR talks extensively about how each person will be able to collect support characters during their travels and interact with them throughout their ventures. If the droid in the trailer is fighting back, again, I can speculate that droids will also be included with the fray. I base this also on the SW:KOTOR 1 and 2 series where you had the assassin droid aiding you as well. I might even be so bold to hope that one of the said 'races' might be a selection of droids, but I don't see that being feesable with some of the classes like Jedi or Sith.
I know 'theories' and 'speculations' aren't much to base expectations off of, and additionally placing expectations on a game's mechanics well before they're presented can lead to a serious let-down, but with Bio-ware's exceptional talent with both story immersion and rendering various possibilities into a genre well deserving of such desire, I wouldn't put it out of the picture for what they might have planned.
I'm personally on edge to try this game based on Bioware's previous entries to the gaming community. As a vet of MMO's, having played games like EQ, FFXI, Star Wars Online, Warcraft, Warhammer, Lineage 2, PlanetSide, Guild Wars, RF Online, and other lesser known MMO's, the common let-down in their series has either been a lack of 'said immersion into the world, or a mechanic that can't support the realism of the dream they portray. It was as if you could only have one or the other, Story value or shiney player mechanics. This game is shaping up so far to have both, and accomplish it effectively, but I'm ready...

I like your post.
I see the Twilek in the trailer as the Sith Warriors "Companion Pet" and the R2D2 Droid for the Jedi Knight as his counterpart "Companion Pet".
If you pause it at a certain point you can see an "Imperial Commando" With the Sith logo on his shoulder pad as the Force users fight. So this is also a possible class, but I would wonder why if they already have the bounty hunter.
Infiltrator makes the most sense, as a counter to the smuggler.
But really your guess is as good as mine, I cant wait to see what is really up.
-
08.31.2009 - 20:58 | XariousConcerning the logo, this could be an indicator of the NPC's that will be in the various battles. As mentioned in the game trailors, Encounters with enemies are supposed to feel 'Heroic', pitting not only you against 3-4 enemies, but like the battle on the spacecraft, enemies are supposed to flood around and create an atmosphere of high tension, pitting your forces against the odds. So the way I interpret that sight would be an atmospheric NPC to battle other atmospheric NPCs, like the Republic troopers/commandoes, etc. However, I won't put out the idea that there could be another empire/sith class that mimics the trooper.
Additionally, if the Twi'lek is a pet at you speculate, and I could agree in that fashion, I can confidently assume that the pets follow a similar class system, yet perhaps not as blatant as the player character classes.
As you said yourself, Your guess is as good as mine, but having seen trailers for other MMO's and seeing how they include these little secrets as they do (and in some cases, mislead... for example, the opening trailer to Warhammer with the chick elf archer), there's always some quirk or trick in the way they present their material. All we -do- know for certain is that each side has a closequarters melee class (Jedi or Sith), a Ranged class (Trooper or Bounty Hunter, if we're to assume the bounty hunter is the trooper's mirror), and a Trick class for lack of a better explaination (Smuggler, and possible infiltrator if we assume the Twi'lek is a mirror of the smuggler). That leaves 1 undefined class open to speculation, and leaves a plethora of possibilities. Until bioware unveils another class that doesn't seem to have a mirror explaination, there's not much from the trailer alone to draw
from.
Such Suspense. Let's just hope they don't waste their dignity on a
Dancer Class, like in the previous Star Wars MMO. I don't think I could bear the sight of more dancers beggin for credits *shiver*.
-
08.31.2009 - 19:10 | Smack54The classes to be announced yet are up in the air for me. Yes it obvious that there will be a Jedi Knight class. Now I'm going to get really geeky here and go off on a tangent.
It seems to me that there will only be one force wielding class on either side for story reasons. The Jedi at this point are beaten back and weakened so having a force centric class doesn't make as much sense. After all the Jedi are trying to rebuild themselves after a war, so master would be few and far between and those left would be warriors.
Lets turn to the Darkside and look at the Sith. The Sith are riding high on their power but this is also before Darth Bane and his recreation of the Sith. So while powerful in numbers and politically the Sith are also diluted in their connection to the Force. The Sith are trying to run an Empire and there is bound to be lots of intrigue and infighting that keeps an individual from studying and mastering the Force entirely.
My guess on classes is that the Sith will get a stealth class of some kind like the girl in the trailer video that shows up at the start with the Sith. The last class I'm going to go out on a limb and say combat droid similar at the beloved HK-47.
Republic, well again the obvious Jedi Knight. My best thoughts for a final class lets go with a Wookie mechanic. Good melee ability but also the ability to fix droids and upgrade equipment.
Of course I know I'm not taking into account the idea of companion characters but we know squat about that at this point. Anyways rant over. Even with my guesses being what they are I'd love to play as a Sith force user tossing lightening around and controlling peoples minds.
-
08.31.2009 - 19:24 | XariousRegarding the races, if memory serves me correctly, they mentioned the use of 10 different races. The 'Seen' ones are the obvious Human race being shown in all the character demos, the Mandalorian Race being shown in the website content, and the Twi'lek being shown in the Trailor. for that reason, I doubt that 1 class will be devoted souly to 1 race.

08.31.2009 - 19:24 | XariousI do remember reading sections where vehicles like starships and such will be included, though the details are rough and sketchy. I don't have the link specifically to where it's mentioned, but if you scowered the site www.swtor.com, I'm sure you could locate it in the developer blogs somewhere.

oh and also i think that the other three classes will be a droid-ish thing for both sides and the evil side is going to have a evil version of a smuggler so ya infiltrator.
Who's going to bet 90-99.9% of all the users will be Jedi/Sith?
I'll bet against that, knowing the fanbase of bounty hunters and Han Solo followers. A more interesting bet would be guessing what agegroups will flock to what faction. I, personally, am betting the 25 and older crowd will likely be going Sith, where the 20 and younger will likely be go Jedi.

1. Single, Dual, or Double-Sided Saber?
I like single light-sabers.There's just something about a two-handed sword technique with one sword that seems natural to me.Plus using force powers seems more logical with on sword.
2. How do you like the Art Direction of the Game?
Meh.Seems bland to me actually. They could do a lot more, especially with the rich source material.
3. What did you think of the sabers from concept art?
Bad-ass.Maybe we could make an AS-KR2 Blaster/Saber hybrid?
4. What do you think the other 3 Classes will be?
Hard to say actually
Good side:I have no idea actually.Jedi Knight and a Blaster user of some kind.
Dark side:Well with all the "Join the dark side,we have cookies" the Cookie Monster and Darth Knight
5. Would you Pledge your Undying Loyalty and Serve your Overlord and Master Angry Joe as a Member of the Sith Legion? Joe is gauging interest for a Sith Guild within the game, let him know if you desire unimaginable power within the Dark Side!

WELL young apprentice....
It's a disaster, Skywalker we're after.
What if he could be turned to the Dark side?
Yes, he'd be a powerful ally, another Dark Jedi.
He will join us or die!
