04.05.2009 - 22:08 | RiftMan I also saw Chronicles of Riddick in the theatre, and loved it. It sucks that the entire series has been hated by critics (aside from the game).

Thanks Benzaie!
The Parody Previews have a bit more explanation and alot more game footage.
This one is the exception (lots of movie scenes) because its based on the trilogy of movies that I happen to like so of course i'm going to share the best they have to offer to get you in the mood for the game.
We strive to make every video better and better. The next videos coming up are similar to this style, then we will likely continue our 5 things series & Top Reasons, those are really fun!

Its really quite amazing that the movie got made in the first place. Movie studios dont like doing things that arent based on already known and succesful franchises - and the riddick stuff wasnt a book.
It was a complete universe created by Vin Diesel and a team of writers.
It helps that Vin Diesel is a true gamer, and having played D&D since he was a kid he knows what it takes to create compelling characters - I cant wait to see what riddick does next.
I saw some footage of the game recently and its got him walking on the outside of the spaceship (in a suit) that seems like a pretty fun level design.

Yea, it was short, I dont think theres anything that pisses me off quite like a short game.
But games being linear? Sometimes its acceptable. I mean they cant all be open world games. So as long as the game tells a great story, and isnt too short I think it doesnt matter if its a bit linear.
I know that you can go about the levels in different ways. completely stealthy or guns ablazing, so theres some variations there - as well as different paths to your destination, through tunnels and vent shafts and such. Without actually reviewing the game though I cant say how much of its "linear" nature got in the way.
Thats something for the review of it. Here's the preview - what we look forward to, what it could do well, and where it comes from essentially.
But Ill remember to try to put in more of "what could mess this game up bad" (short, linear, etc).

Very good video, I like the riddick verse just as well, besides that I think you've improved immensely with your videos. The first ones didn't really entertain me that much. But much of the later ones I've enjoyed a whole lot. So call me a fan...or soldier in the AngryJoe army :cheer:

I was looking forward to Dark Athena so I checked out the demo. I think I'll have to try it again, since I just can't seem to grasp killing the guards while they're shooting at me. lol.
But yeah, I had picked up that same trilogy set a few years ago for about $10 or $15. I couldn't tell you how many times I watched them. In fact I HAD to after renting Babylon AD one night, just to see real Vin again.

04.06.2009 - 05:57 | senninactually its a quadrilogy sofar(not counting in the new game),when you follow the riddick timeline.
it al starts with the 1st game:
escape from butcher bay,the follow up on that is pitchblack, those events were followed up in the animated movie 'dark fury and then came chronicles of riddick.
shortly after the release of the chronicles of riddick they rereleased pitchblack which now carried the title 'the chronicles of riddick:pitchblack'.
the question ofcourse is if you can count the animated version and game inthere.some will say yes, others no.

04.06.2009 - 06:42 | BernhardtI only just saw Chronicles of Riddick just last year, when I bought the trilogy DVD set, after having wanted to see it since I saw the trailer in 2004.
Didn't even know there were the two other films before it.
"Pitch Black" was a decent survival horror, but "Chronicles of Riddick" was damn original. Still, I don't think you'd fully appreciate it without "Pitch Black," though.
Vaguely interested in the Riddick games, but games based on movies hardly ever turn out well...

First off im glad to learn im not the only one anymore that enjoyed Chronicles of Riddick - if there was a board game or tabletop dice game for it im in, I love the Armor that the Necromongers wear. I've even flirted with buying a set of that armor for myself (too expensive though)....
Glad you guys enjoyed the video!
Were still toying around with different styles - Up next Ive got a Video where I actually stay in "Just Joe Mode" for the majority of it, only going "Angry Joe" for a bit. This allows me to take a more serious analysis type approach - let me know what you think of it.
I like the fact that I can experiment a bit with styles and formats before figuring out which ones you guys like best.
After that thought im pretty sure ive got it nailed down, now just comes the refining... Stick with us!
ANGRY! :pinch:

I completely agree with you, I doubt there is enough interest for them to release an rpg based off of it, but you might be able to use something like the star wars rpg, shadow run, or most any other sci fi rpgs.
I am glad to see that I am not the only one who loved Chronicles of Riddick, I personally believe that its one of the most underrated sci fi movie sagas out there, vin fits the Riddick character like a glove.
Oh and on the bit about RPGs, if you happen to be in the Sacramento area, I might be able to GM a CoR themed game, as I am currently getting into RPGs (my group runs a Star wars game and a DND game).

Hey I sign in to tell you that you gave a pretty good preview on a good game.
don't mean to correct you but the title of the game is ASSAULT On Dark Athena. Riddick never gets captured actually he is on the offense against Revas and her band of mercs, drones from (Spoiler Alert) enslaved people, crazed people that have been on the ship for years.
Still looks to be a good game just don't have huge expectations but enough talk I don't Riddick to silt my throat if I say anything bad about his game.

Hey Joe, good review. I too really enjoyed the Chronicles of Riddick movie as well as Pitch Black. Probably not as big a fan as you, but it's definitely a sweet movie.
The game looks pretty cool, but it also looks like there's a lot going on the screen. I couldn't make heads or tails of what was happening sometimes. If the camera is that shaky I'm not sure how fun it'll be while I'm vomiting into a bucket.
I thought that the clips you inserted (some of them) were a little too long, though. Might want to think about editing a bit more. It's cool when you give your own viewpoint on why you like the movies and the games, play that out a bit more.
Inserting clips is fun, but it shouldn't be the bulk of your video. It should emphasize and add a little extra.
Looking forward to more reviews.

Even though you're "Angry Joe", you don't get angry much. You seem more of an "Excited Joe" or "Ecstatic Joe". Although Angry does sound alot better. XD

04.06.2009 - 15:43 | BaneTKI loved the explanation in the beginning. Kinda got the feeling of where you would be coming from with your preview.
And you really know how to hype up a game.
I also love how you don't give it all positive.
I really feel like trying this game now.
