Apart from the prequel thing, I agree with you. 3D re-releases are just being shoved into our faces. Hell I just heard they plan to re-release TITANIC of all movies in 3D.
I wonder what would happen when all movies in existence have been re-released in 3D and we're out of ideas? Release them in 4D, 5D or any other type of D out there?
Oh wait shame on me. I bet by the time they release it on 5D, we'll be watching movies and playing card games on motorcycles.

Yeah I heard about Titanic being re-released in 3D too. I don't think there is any purpose to re-releasing it in 3D since the only thing that MIGHT look good in it is when the ship is sinking. (I'm not much of a fan of 3D). But one thing I am looking forward to is I believe that Titanic might make more money that Avatar LOL because I think Titanic is a better movie than Avatar.
Also, I agree with you Joe. IDK what is up with this 3D stuff and why the hell does Star Wars need to be re-re-re-re (etc) released. I've seen enough.

Actually, at my mall there is a 5D theater. Apparently, you have to pay $20 per show, and they're only like 15 minutes are so because it'll hurt our brains or something if we're in there for very long. There's a horror flick, an ocean flick (which might actually be kinda cool), and a kiddie flick, and a couple more I think.

What? 1D = Line, 2D = Plane, 3D = Depth/Space, 4D = Time (Theoretically)... how can there be a 4D let alone 5D theater? Unless you mean the bullshit Universal has where they call it 4D and you get hit with water and poked with things in your seat and your hair gets blown a little. Still doesn't explain 5D. I have a feeling you're lying, unless you give me a link or something.

Yeah, I'm just gonna take a little road trip to Skywalker Ranch. I'll stand on the lawn, waving $90 and yelling, "YOU SEE MY MONEY, LUCAS? YOU SEE IT? WELL, YOU'RE NOT GETTING SH*T 'TILL I GET MY BATTLEFRONT 3, SO TAKE YODA'S 3-D GLASSES AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS!" :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame:

10.04.2010 - 02:06 | Cornwind EvilmanYou know, you're right Joe. This is the last straw. Lucas, GET HELP. This isn't just greed, I swear you're suffering from some sort of slowly encroaching DEMENTIA.

10.05.2010 - 00:52 | SqueejeeNO! NEVER!
I hereby pledge that I will not support the rape of my beloved series, Star Wars, and that on the opening night of each movie I will show up to the theater to see anything else that is on at the same time.
We need to start a petition or something for this shit.
-
10.04.2010 - 02:15 | Gulmont BladeI'm not going to go see it. I cant see 3d.

It's crap like this that makes me happy I have never watched a movie in 3d. I thank you Joe for warning me about this rerelease, so I can avoid it like the plague.

I had to pause the video on that first angry explosion because I was laughing so hard! XD
Also, is it just me? Or did you enjoy repeating the phrase "up his ass" just a little too much?
Gread vid though, dude! As of today, I'm setting aside all the ticket money I would be spending to be put towards something something more noble, like eco-terrorism.
-
10.04.2010 - 02:28 | ToonMonkeyI can 100% promise you that I will NOT be watching any of these films.

This is hardly surprising. 3D isn't going anywhere, and Star Wars gets a rerelease something like every 10 years or so. It's only logical it'd happen now that 3D is getting big. I say fuck it. If you don't like Star Wars revamps, don't worry about it and stick to the originals you have on VHS and keep reading Expanded Universe novels like I do. If you like 3D, don't go see 3D movies, although it'll be hard to escape it because mark my words, 3D is the next step in film.

I can see the cons of it. But I can see the pros.
Lucas uses Star wars to test new tech
like motion capture for the first release
the Special editions were a test to see if they could make CGI environments and characters believable which lead to the prequels
which lead to Avatar and nearly 2.8 billion dollars making it Fox's second biggest cash cow next to Star wars.
And we all now Lucas won't mess up the effects. Story yes, but not the effects.

No, for the same reason no one will remake the original Stark Trek series. They're classics that shouldn't be remade. I think most fans, myself included, hate just the upgrades to the original films.
If Lucas wants to make another Star Wars movie he really should go back before any of the others and start fresh. Or maybe that's the problem - he's out of new ideas.
What's next, Indiana Jones in 3D? So we can see a giant boulder coming out of the screen at us?
Crap.
-
I hated the Prequals, and the only reason I even own Epi I is because Dad thought I needed it. I will unfortunately probably go see 4-6, but this 3D is just getting ridiculous. He's pouring all his money into another remake, but not doing anything else interesting. The Thrawn Trilogy is a very well written set of books. He could totally make an entire new set of movies from it. Anything with the Yuuzhan Vong would be epic.
Wasn't part of the charm of the original movie the use of props and puppets to tell a decent story? Has Lucas Seen how well Star Trek does, now having released 11 movies? Doesn't he know that he'd be able to get even MORE money if he made more movies?
-
10.04.2010 - 03:04 | Tanabata07...That laugh tells me he no longer takes his own work seriously. I'll bet the prequels were just a joke. Yeah, I can imagine it now.
"Lucas, we need a new Star Wars film!"
"Why?"
"Shut up and make it!"
"Fine, you want Hayden Christianson in it?"
"Yes! You're a genius, Lucas!"
"How about a giant walking fish for comic relief?"
"Of course! That's what Star Wars was missing!"
And Lucas pulls out his whiskey.

Same here. Guess I'll save money not buying the TV as well.
Personally I don't think 3D will last to 2017, only as a small obscure gimmick perhaps, but the audience will understand that it is still the story that makes a good movie.

It's frustrating. Re-re-re-releasing things will score mr. lucas money with the young generation, that's what this is all about.

Joe, this has to be my favorite movie related video from you yet. Love seeing you act on camera. You should really branch out your talent into the film industry somehow.
And henceforth I will not be spending a dime on anything Star Wars related unless things seriously change. George Lucas is running his whole franchise straight into the ground without much hope.

10.04.2010 - 03:46 | Doleth
I don't think Lucas will last until 2017 as there seems to be an alien parasite growing in his neck.
I know I won't go see any of the prequel movie and I'll only go for ep IV and V if there's a 2d version as I consider 3d to be one of the worst gimmick in cinema and I just can't understand why people like it and call it the next step in movie making. The only thing it adds to a movie is the capacity to give headache and to wear stupid used glasses over regular glasses.
The worst part is that they will use the update version of the original trilogy with all the unwanted cgi comic relief crap, like that yellow midget travestite alien that sing for like 7 years in return of the jedi or Greedo's gun apparently shooting at a stupid angle.

That's what i dread, too. I'd do anything to never hear that asshole sing in Jabba's palace ever again. The puppet girl did just fine. It was supposed to sound alien, and it totally did. But the Special Edition version just sounded like really bad Earth music.
The Mos Eisley Cantina, a little scummy bar, had far superior music than Jabba's PALACE.

Okay now that that's out of my system. The thing you have to understand is that it's not "just Star Wars" to many fans. People need escapism once in a while, and to many Star Wars is the ultimate form of escapism, they remember it from when they were a kid and hold it in extremely high regard. Seeing what the very creator of the movies is doing to his, now horribly disfigured, creations is very difficult for some people. In case you haven't guess I am one of those "some people".
Also, who really like Episode 3? Honestly.
-
Oh trust me Joe, I'm not going to go see these re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re- re-re-release at all. I went and paid for all 3 of the prequels in theaters and then watched the originals on VHS. I'm officially done. I didn't even bother going to see the originals when they were re-released in theaters.
As far as the prequels go, the only thing that made it for me was the animated Clone Wars episodes that played on cartoon network. The one that followed the Jedi and actually showed General Grievous as a Bad ass before they made it a kiddie friendly cash cow.

10.04.2010 - 23:50 | QarxYou missed about 3 "re"s in there :snicker:
Seriously, we've already seen what happens when you put 3-D into a movie that wasn't made for 3-D... best case scenario: the movies get additional scenes ala the first re-releases of the Original Trilogy that take advantage of this 3-D gimmick... and if they're anything like that shitty music scene in Return of the Jedi... :psychotic:
EDIT:
That first part of my comment was a joke. Ha ha.
