Joe, you're such a baller.
This is probably one of your best reviews. I mean you've come a long way in just one year.
I wish I could get this game, but unfortunately I do not have a pc that's good enough to play this game. The computer I use is just too slow. (they run old games fine, just anything past 2000 is too much XD)
From what the system you described is apparently, it kind of reminds me of a more complex version of Brutal Legend (not the premise although they are both fantasy) with more RTS replacing the Action Adventure. Kinda cool I must say.
I'm also starting to understand your rating system more. After reading on your site that your ratings are based on worth buying, not how good the game is: the lack of decimals is much more understandable (I also like how you state that average is not 7, but 5)
And I hate to be the one to ask a probably repeated question...I really do...but my curiosity persists...you made an "extreme" brutal legend video...are you going to make a video review? Just curious...

12.04.2009 - 02:48 | OneFreeManGood review. I'll probably pick this up after the holiday season.
Just one question though (I haven't noticed if you mentioned this). Does the game have a multiplayer component?

12.04.2009 - 05:00 | 9_6Jesus you put more fluff into the video than talking about the actual game. I literally have to sit through 5 minutes of stuff before hearing anything about the actual game you want to tell us about.
And what do you tell us then?
-It looks pretty. (Like that's something special in todays games anymore ^^)
-It's a strategy game. (With somewhat bugged pathfinding AI, considering the attacking)
-You can upgrade your troops and equip them with stuff. (How?)
-It's somewhat about the king arthur saga (although I have seen a giant as a unit somewhere there...?)
-It has a great variety of troops. (and all you show us are 3 unit types? How exactly do they vary?)
Would've been real nice if you took more time to describe the game more in-depth because that is what the video should be all about right?
For instance how can I upgrade my troops? What is the story about? Is there even a story at all? Is there multiplayer or is it singleplayer only and if it's there, how is the multi-or singleplayer? Show us some interesting looking units! You told about fantasy stuff being in there like giants (and... that's about all I saw), show us some badass dragon we can command around or some massive sorcery nuke that wipes everything out or whatever fantasy is in the game! Also is there some sort of restrictive copy protection? Yeah it may seem trivial to you but I consider that a major, well hidden trap hole for PC games.
Well ok you said it's available on steam so I guess there is nothing additional on it (unless you're EA and put your potentially system wrecking DRM also on steam games... but I guess young companies don't do that) but especially since it's never being mentioned on the package of pc games, it'd be nice to be warned about it by someone IF it's there.
And I suppose in this case it's not (apart from steam but steam is actually one of the lesser evils and greater conveniences in the copy protection world) so that would actually be yet another reason for certain people to buy this.
And if you like it that much, you want to convince us to buy this, right?

Dude you have no idea what your talking about nor how to make an entertaining video.
This game is so massive it would take hours to describe all the details you desire. The game is good buy it thats all you really need from me.
I did tell you what it was about and all sorts of stuff about it.
WOW.
-
12.05.2009 - 08:28 | 9_6I didn't ask for you to describe every single detail, I merely pointed out that 50% fluff (you say something about the game, immediately followed by the next 1+ minute non-game-related joke) is a bit much.
It was okay and added to them in your other reviews where it was directly related to the game or served to say something about it (like, how l4d got repetetive or how halo ODST feels way too short) but you just went a tad overboard with it here.
Hey I like your stuff and I'm trying to help you by explaining what I didn't like along with why and how to possibly improve it. I took my time to write all that after all, that should tell you something.
Anyway, sorry for pointing out a flaw I thought was obvious but hey, what do I know? I have no idea what I'm talking about after all.

you did make a entertaining video, and besides if you seriously wanted to review this game it would get boring, and this site is especially about funny reviews that entertain you, while they are giving a few tips, and pointing out why they liked the game or not, so looking at it like this, its a very good review.
(kinda pointless pointing it out to you since you already know, just adding something to the long forgotten discussion, for when some1 like me reads the comments) :)

12.04.2009 - 05:22 | DracainIf you like RPGRTS games a great series is Warlords battlecry. It believe Warlords Battlecry 3 was the latest one, and while it's graphics are not the greatest due to it being a couple years old, it's still an amazing game.
-
12.04.2009 - 08:13 | Mr.StillmanHey Joe, I had a good laugh at your video here, especially the part where you said "Who's doing the music?" and a blurb of the hymn or whatever starts up again. That was great.

-
12.04.2009 - 08:20 | McBeaverI'm not sure if you know this already, Joe, but even Ensemble didn't get AI path-finding right with AoE3. It seems to be the recurring thorn in almost every RTS's side.

12.04.2009 - 12:47 | DezedorAfter seeing this review, I decided to investigate a bit more about the game.
It really looks great, the kind of game I've always wanted, but never got.
It has some vague similarities with Mount and Blade and some more clear ones with Total War. Not a bad blend at all.
All in all, this game looks really great, and I'm certainly gonna buy it.
So thx for the tip.

Very good rundown, and I really enjoyed the sketches. Admittedly, I was expecting some Monty Python Holy Grail references, but yours were nice, original bits.
