From the sounds if it, it's going to play almost exactly like The Third Age did.
You should check that out in your wait, Joe. It might get you ready for what to expect in War in the North. Plus The Third Age is also co-op, letting a friend help you out by playing as your other characters.
I give it a good recommendation.

Nice interview Joe,I never heard about that game before you did this.
Althought,I'm kidna worried about that game,it looks like a "lighter" version of the MMO Lord Of The Ring (Lotro) and more like an occasion to open the market of this game to the console area without really trying to export a huge MMO to consoles.
we'll see.

You can have three player co-op and have someone else come in and try to kill you in Demon's Souls... and it's an RPG... with plenty of loot... and weapons that you can craft... and armor that changes your appearance... and it has an amazing single player experience with an equally if not moreso amazing multiplayer experience...
Overly long shameless plug right there, but if you're as in to all of those things as you say you are then it seems like the game would be perfect for you.

I got the impression that it would be more a action RPG akin to Fable as opposed to being turn based, like LOTR The Third Age.
Are you saying you actually LIKED The Third Age??? I personally hated it, what with it's boring characters, paper thin plot supplemented with clips ripped of from the movie, and the gameplay lifted from FFX and FFX-2.
This game might be good in the sense that it will play well, but it will probably be terrible in the sense of lore and story, just my thoughts...

Oh heck no I can agree with you about the story for it, especially when they jump in and help Gandalf with the Balrog with almost no repercussions.
But as for the customization and the battle system, it worked VERY well. While I didn't care for it's story, the rest of teh game was fun...save for the Evil Side quests. Those were meh.
And it's going to be Action RPG? Ahh I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up!

Meh, third age wasn't all bad, the GBA version was fun as well, certainly not as bad as other EA LOTR titles (Conquest, Battle for Middle-Earth 2). Is EA involved with this one as well, I know Snowblind is developing but who is publishing?

08.08.2010 - 12:28 | adrasl300Battle for Middle Earth 2 was a bad game?
I thought it was fairly enjoyable.

I also liked The 3rd Age. Sure, some of its plot is far from canon. But, the rpg system worked well, the battle settings were well set, the enemies were well crafted, the weapons and armor are cool and it was somewhat challenging to boot. I even found the plot interesting, though it lacked a good ending(fighting Sauron's Eye?). It's not the best RPG ever, but I found it to be fun and worth what I paid for it.

To each their own and all, but I didn't like Third Age much at all. It was like Final Fantasy with (maybe) half the budget where you fight the same 4 or 5 enemies for most of the game. There were very few different weapons, armors or items to find and no towns or npcs to talk to along. It was a series of bland cinematics shoehorned into the movie's plot connected by dry, purely combat based linear hallways stuffed with encounters with the exact same couple monsters over and over. Not one Id recommend personally.

Just seems like it'll be a Lord of the Rings version of Champions of Norrath. Which isn't a bad thing, Champions was a good game, but there's only so much hack-n-slash button mashing I can take. Hope they've improved on it
For those of you who have not played Snowblind's previous offerings (the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath games), they're basically console adaptations of Diablo 2. Diablo 2 was far more refined, of course, but if you were like me and disliked how everything in those games was controlled through left clicking stuff, you might enjoy Snowblind's work more (the control stick is used to move and the face buttons are used for attacks/special attacks).
Joe, if you're looking for a co-op RPG experience, check out the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games. Those are 4-player co-op RPGs with Marvel superheroes, damn good ones too. There's even loot in them, for your loot-whoring needs (the gear improves the characters stats, but does not alter their appearance). Deadpool is in them too, as a playable character! I recommend the original over MUA2 though, from a gameplay standpoint. Honestly, I thought those games (and the X-men Legends games before them) were better than what Snowblind has put out so far.

I found it hilarious that Sir Ian Mckellen (Gandalf) is the one to make a gay comment. He's been open about his sexuality since 1988.

08.07.2010 - 17:35 | xenxanderI would have liked it if you had said:
"Now before I go, is there anything you'd like to add, to our viewers before I go?"
thus leaving it slightly open for him to make a final comment, before you then had said:
"I'll see you again, on the Next Angry Joe Show."
Other than that, it's nice to get a sneak peak at an upcomming game that I'm excited about.
The game "Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring" was really a let down, so I hope this will make up for it.
