Fascinating. Equipping armor on starfleets does pose an interesting question. Do you try to save your red shirts by outfitting them in the best gear? Or do you accept the inevitable and give the best stuff to the rest of your crew?
Oh, and you should've asked him if Ensign Munroe could be recruited.

09.14.2009 - 22:00 | ShmooglavoueWell, this interview has made the game sound more interesting than what I've heard previously. I had heard that your shipmates would be using standard phazers, and only have differences in stats. That, would be boring as all hell.
I'm more of a Star Wars fan than Star Trek, and since Bioware is possibly my favorite game company I'll be looking up TOR first. But I hope Star Trek Online turns out good as well, though I still think TOR has more going for it.
Oh, and Joe, I remember on a different thread you said that TOR wouldn't have any space combat. That, like most of everything else about TOR, hasn't been confirmed. Bioware has stated they will have an epic "space experience" since it's such an important part of Star Wars. Whether this means we get to control our own ships, or if we'll just be on the ships during spacefights, we'll have to wait and see.

TOR will most likely be bigger and probably better but STO assuming it's any good will probably end up having the better community. Kind of like Lord of the Rings online it's primary audience consists of adult fans and older gamers. While all those annoying 13 year olds are busy ruining TOR and WOW for everyone else.

Glad it sparked your interest.
I personally think that STO has more going for it with its Dual-Gameplay (space combat AND ground combat) along with its "Infinite Exploration" using the Genesis Worlds Creator System than SWTOR.
What does SWTOR have? Bioware's story, and fully voiced characters.
Oh and if you think space combat will be in the initial release of SWTOR your wrong. Trust me, I've talked alot with those guys ;)

You've definitely got me excited for this game, Joe. Like you I'm not a fan of MMOs, but I'm a big Star Trek fan. This game will allow me to actually be part of the Trek universe so to speak. It would be a honor to serve under your command.
Also, according to Wikipedia the game takes place about 30 years after the events of Nemesis and the destruction of Romulus.

09.14.2009 - 22:44 | Lannden_lightGreat questions Joe. Doesn't look like my cup of tea for a MMO (then again im not into trek and don't like scifi MMOs) but still looks cool. It will weird seeing the captains in armor though im picturing killzone 2 style :D

Well, if you can even find that many people. Look at World of Warcraft, even with all their subscribers you can sit there for an hour trying to find just 25 guys for an OS Raid.
And if their on the farside of the Alpha Quadrant, well...good luck..lol

09.15.2009 - 00:03 | SpocksBrainGreat interview. I first heard about this game from your MMO video a few months back, and I can't wait for it. It really looks like it's shaping up to be amazing. I hope it actually catches on and will last for a while.

I'm still a bit skeptical over how good the game will be. It sounds like they are being a bit too ambitious with the number of features. I just can't shake the feeling that most of the features will feel flat since they're trying to do everything at once. Kind of like Star Wars Galaxies.
I have to admit though, this interview helped quell my skepticism a little. Thanks Joe!

Well in that case, let us all hope that TOR will have strict RP servers eh?
In any case, great review Joe. Hope to see you in space, whether it be STO or TOR.

Great interview Joe, I admit I wasn't interested at all about the game but that exploration system has won me over along with a few other aspects. I just hope all this good stuff will be there in the final version of the game.
You asked some pretty good questions too. There's quite a few MMO's I was eager about or their expansion and such and most of the questions people ask is absolutely pointless or obvious crap.
You also seemed really excited in the video. I hope your first MMO experience will be satisfying. :D

Still cool. Thanks for the information, Joe :D
