First? also, ya. It get's boring and tedious as hell when playing alone.

Looks like a pretty badass game, though I never got into MMOs. Also, I'd probably wind up playing it alone, and you said that's no fun. The crashes that cause loss of internet connection also concern me. I hope the company gets that fixed quickly.

11:15 - 12:30 That's what I thought about the game. Whatever you do ingame, it just doesn't feel like serving any purpose.

Also yes, system requirements are just way too high. Not sure if it improved by now, but when I tried closed beta, my Quad Core and GTX560Ti were NOT able to maintain 20+ FPS in a larger scale battles. Sometimes dropped to around 10fps with low settings.

I might give it another try in 2013.

The Galaxy stacking was glorious btw xD.

so definently not the borderlands 2 range of guns......

hell, now that would be fun. a war game using borderlands 2 type characters and guns.

7 bucks for a single gun...after you pay $15 a month for premium? Yeeeeah,I'll be sticking to Halo 4 and Guild Wars 2.
  • badgerhax
Oh. You mean that game you spent 60 dollars on? Not even mentioning Xbox Live prices.

Guy using Deckard Cain on the voice chat was about the only thing that gave me any kind of enjoyment about this game.

Just more SOE bull crap.. Don't forget how terrible their other F2P crap is like Everquest and Everquest 2..

"if you play first person shooters exclusively for the story..."

Yeah I don't think many people do that.

I mean you might play certain shooters for their story but the genre for the most part is in a very gameplay (particularly multiplayer) focussed place right now.

Its free for fun, but not for long... (Fun, I mean) ;-)

    Shotguns are still annoying... :-P

This reminds me of MAG, which is a game I freaking loved.

And I agree, having an alien race that all the factions have to team up against every once in awhile would be incredibly awesome.

How does one join the AJ army?

I'll definitely end up playing this game alone if I even try it. I don't have this many friends, nor am I looking for guilds by another name. I'm also not a fan of being "a cog in the machine," so to speak, which this game seems to be built around.

None of which should take anything away from the review, obviously. Knowing what kind of game Planetside 2 is helps me decide whether or not I want to bother with it. Right now... I'm thinking not. Most of Joe's positives do little for me and most of his negatives would end up bugging me to no end.

Same here. I have some friends from work who were all over Planetside 1 and I was really excited for 2 when watching the beta videos and Twitter feed. But all those negative points really kill it.

Plus, I used to play Everquest way back in the day, so good luck if you honestly think they'll change anything about the cash shop. SOE sucks like that.

Spent some more time playing it. And I'll have to disagree with Angry Joe. There is no close line. with better weapons, increased armor, larger clips, and access to grenades, along with a plethora of ability upgrades that would all take months to earn for the single class of a single character.
This game finally qualifies as a money grubbing "Pay to win". Using cash doesn't just give you more options, it gives you a distinct advantage over people who've spent months trying to earn a new gun. Or weeks just to save up enough for the privilage of using grenades.

Going to try to recreate the post I was going to leave on your website, but got eaten due to a computer issue (you might want someone to check your sites code, ever time I switched the window over to your review it gave me some weird error message about one of my graphic card's drivers restarting).

Greeting Angry Joe, I am Whiteagle with the Mobile Infantry, a fellow Terran Republic Outfit on the same server as your own Angry Army, Waterson.

I don't know if it's you guys, TotalBiscut's crew, or the public outfit at Terran-Republic.com, but apparently the NC over at Planetside-Universe.com are whining about how "underpowered" they are!

    Anywho, on to the Review.
Now I agree that 7 USD is a bit much for a weapon unlock, but the few games that I play that use a microtransaction model seem to think that's the minimum amount you should be giving them.
Luckily, SOE is a bit better about their cash shop then most.
I've recently heard a few stories on how people have successfully had their Station Cash refunded by Customer Service in the event they made a bad buy, plus I think they have monthly weekend deals that give you a double or even triple bonuses for buying Station Cash.

You also gain eight passive Certification Points per day, as well as Medal bonuses granted when you clock certain numbers of kills on each weapon.

As for the rather unpolished look of the game, well, I don't know how closely you followed the Beta, but what we're playing now isn't too far removed from it.

It seems like as soon as they got the third Continent (Amerish) done, they started rushing it to Launch.
This is especially confusing considering the talk of seamless intercontinental sea travel, the need of a far greater number Continents for the intercontinental meta-game from the Original game to be implemented, and the original disclaimer for the Alpha Squad Package stating you'd get your in-game items some time around the end of December/begining of January.

Still, once they do get the next batch of Continents put it, at least the "war for Auraxis" will feel more meaningful.

As for in-game events, the Devs have stated that they aren't planing on putting any AI controlled characters into the game...
...But you have reminded me of an idea I had back before I started the Beta...

...Of course that will be better left as a suprise.

Welp, I've said my piece, hope you actually bothered to read this wall of text...

    See you in-game!

    "ON THE BOUNCE!"

I play Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, another Sony game; in this case an MMO. It also has serious lag and occasional crashing issues. They seem to like using engines that are great for programmers, but do not handle large amounts of data at once, and so cause issues in multi-player.

I'm not sure what Terras is smoking, everyone can use basic grenades from what I've seen. You just have to resupply them using your infantry supply points at an infantry console. Yeah...this is one of those lack of tutorial things rearing it's ugly head.

I think the best part of this game is that you've got massive combat, and that, while weapon upgrades are Nice, they aren't Necessary to be effective. I haven't seen any vanu weapons that suck as basic weapons. Sure, it's annoying not to be able to upgrade the basic rocket launcher with a lock on tracker, but does it stop me from shooting dumbasses out of the sky? no. It just requires someone to learn how to aim.

That said, the prices on these unlocks is truly horrid. While some things are nice and in reach for someone just starting the game (such as the sunderer spawn point unlock for 50 certs, and various minor upgrades for 1 cert each), the rate of cert acquisition vs the actual improvement in the weapons you spend those points to unlock seems to be sadly disparate. The only guns that seem to be worth unlocking are vehicle weapons, and perhaps a lock on rocket launcher for the heavy assault. None of the infantry weapons seem all that impressive, let alone worth 7 bucks or 1000 certs to pick up.

Interesting and I would be a fool to pass up the opportunity to try it out... downloading it now!

    Thanks angry joe!

I'm sure it was on the MMO Grinder site but ended up see it here first XD
  • TacticalBacon
I feel like you should have mentioned that the Vanu snipers are terrifying to play against, and are not that bad in single person mode!
