I've watched his commentaries and, to put it simply, it's interesting to hear Noah's side of the story. It's sad but understandable. What about you? What do you think about his thoughts?
By the looks of it, it was business disagreements and never was the one that surfaced months ago. By a long shot, none of it were personal tensions between him and CA Critics. At least that's what I understand. Am I'm wrong about that dude?

That was my impression.
But I got that it was more than business disagreements. It was also changes to the internet culture as a whole, with SOPA and similar legislation looming on the horizon. Spoony knew that the Critic was going to be retired, and he also knew that, as internet personalities, it was time to adapt, to change with the times, or to risk losing out to upcoming changes in the way the internet is run.
So, the bottom line, the decision was based on a number of complicated factors. Personal tensions were just one more catalyst, but in reality, this was going to come sooner or later.

10.15.2012 - 20:43 | wioudsI rented this on the PS3 and now I need to save up the money for it.
I like the fact that they change it to a simple load out. They are soldiers they should be able to carry the ammo they need without my hand holding. It is great that to get their weapon will be destroy if you do not stun the enemy.
It would be great if we were able to make changes to the entrance. Like place extra fuel barrels to reduce the cost to the planes. Then the aliens could attack the entrance with a failure if the get deeper into the base.

Ya this game is a lot of fun and very hard. Im a stratagy buff and have played many of them and I find this game to be very challenging at times and frustraiting..in a fun way. Have yet to beat it due to getting pissed off by issues getting my guys to go where I want them to go and them dieing. Anyone else run into an issue where you are trying to select a location for them to go to and then the curser jumps to the lower level and out of cover? Freaking anoying!
As for what someone above said about it seeming like Valkyria Chronicles. That is true in some ways and if you enjoyed that game you will surely enjoy this...speaking of which I need to acually go back and beat that game...after beating xcom..several times..

10.15.2012 - 22:12 | Stormblade13Awesome Review. Nice to see Spoony still helping out the guys at Channel Awesome. Anyway, great review. I normally don't play many strategy games, (I think I own 2) but this one looks interesting. I could use something to put my ego in its place whenever it gets over inflated.

10.15.2012 - 22:13 | Moreno XGreat video Joe, and it's cool to have Spoony (I mean Terl) appear in your video. Unexpected I was and it deliver good.
Now, with Terl alive, how did he survive? Did he again transferred his mind to another Psy-Clone who was alive elsewhere outside the Plot-Hole/TGWTG universe, which kinda shows that Terl gather all the alien species to band together to invade you for revenge? Or did he made a deal with Corporate Commander to fund and negotiate with the aliens to aid Terl's campaign behind close doors and then invade openly on the planet?
Whatever it is, it goes to show you that with Nostalgia Critic being a part of the Plot-Hole, you can't help but think his decision to merge with it could accidently brought back Terl (maybe Mechakara too) because it is...well...the power of Plot-Hole's surprises.
:/ Thats what I get and interpret the opening. Take it or leave it, I tried. :)
Anyway, nice review Joe.

Although I probably won't wind up getting the game, it looks pretty badass to me. I would have liked if the aliens were something other than your typical Grays, but hey, that's just my opinion.
Also Joe, I noticed you've been using your YouTube videos for the past couple of months. I guess neither Springboard nor Blip has been working well for you. Personally, for me the Springboard videos would get stuck at a certain spot and I'd have to finish watching the review from your YouTube channel anyway, so I guess you gotta work with what you can. The only one that was in Springboard format that lasted all the way through without sticking was the Star Wars Kinect review.
I'm wondering if Channel Awesome still gets revenue from advertisements in this form. Not a major concern. Just a small thought. Not important.
Been watching your reviews for a while and just got caught up. Of course, that's just in this section (along with a couple specials like the best and worst games of the year). Now I'll have to take a look at the videos in your other sections.

I believe Channel Awesome doesn't get any revenue at all from videos, except maybe for Doug's. The video producers neither give nor take money from Channel Awesome, they're just hosted on TGWTG.com as a form of mutual advertizement.
I assume Channel Awesome makes all its money off of ads on this site (and possibly Doug's videos).

10.16.2012 - 01:54 | EvilAshTwinIm not a real big fan of RTS games. Mainly because Im not very good at them. Im old enough and wise enough to know to stay away from game genres Im not good at. Of the RTS genre, I hate the turn based ones the most, and thats less to due with me sucking and more to do with the turn based mechanic is often BS. I have ample reason to stay away from this game.
However, I cant deny that this game does look good. Even though I have some harsh words about the RTS genre, some of my favorite missions from Warcraft were the ones where they gave you a finite number of units to use per map, and you didnt have to worry about resource gathering.
Tell you what Joe, I wont get this game right away. When Steam puts it on sale for 75-90% off for Christmas, then Ill pick it up and give it a try.
-
10.16.2012 - 02:45 | timotakaUmm, RTS stands for Real-Time Strategy. Real-time and turn-based are mutually exclusive (though some games allow you to choose between the two). Sounds like it's more accurate to say you're not a fan of strategy games in general.

10.16.2012 - 08:17 | DBoyNice review Joe.
I've been playing since launch(trying to tone it down some since I got other things to work on but the game is so tempting to jump back into).
Your skit playing chess with the alien and him just wiping the board clean is, for better or worse, is spot on for classic mode.
The game is great. May not be perfect, but still a enjoyable experience. Game still has some minor bugs with LOS and tile selection(there's one alien ship level that is still horrendously buggy with the roof tiles blocking player view constantly. You know which map >:{)
Base defense would have been fun, but I imagine the ant farm design of the base was incompatible with a combat map. Perhaps that's why?
I'm looking forward to what DLC will come for this. It needs more customization options(including class assignment choices!).
I'd like to see an option for air support; calling a bombing run from interceptors or upgrade the skyranger to arm it(carry more troops even).
Now to wait on Spoony's more critical review...

10.16.2012 - 12:33 | Paper_BanjokamiOh man, I was already getting excited just from how the game looked, but this review solidified it as a must buy.
And was that Deus Ex: Human Revolution music playing in your cutscenes near the beginning and end? I would recognize those electronic whatever-you-call-them twangs or bloops or whatever, I would recognize those anywhere. And nice use of Bit.Trip's Strange Comfort in the credits.
Also, that display of dissatisfaction in the lack of base defense was hilarious.

10.16.2012 - 17:47 | UNSCmagickJust thought I would say, I love this game, and have a tale to share. In my first play through I had 2 people i wouldn't let die, my support that I used for the entire game, and my favorite person, Daniel "Xenos" Katz the sniper. I always picked favorites with him, getting his new gear before anyone else, and it always paid off. In one turn with him alone, I killed 5 things because of how stacked i had him in accuracy, damage, and crit and the Corporeal level ability that allows another action after each kill on something out side of cover. My love for him was to the point where his death was an auto restart on the mission.

You need the research, and have to stun aliens, but you can collect them after mission end. You can stun up to 12 aliens, assuming every single member of your team has an arc thrower and never misses (3 hp or less is high chance). It can be a PITA but well worth it for free weapons, IMO.
I do like that you don't lose equipment from dead soldiers either, would have sucked if all my researched/captured weapons were lost and I had to go back to the standard issue.
Speaking of researched weapons, the alloy cannon is BAD ASS. I cringe every time one of my assault operators uses one. It's BRUTAL yet satisfying. It's like the shotgun from Looper on mega steroids. The scientists basically are taking parts of their ships, grinding them down into bits, and returning the shards back to them. IN YO FACE!
