YES
I just saw this movie today, and I think it's one of the best action flicks I've seen in a long time. The pacing is great. The action is great. The acting is decent, especially considering half the people are in helmets.
I want a sequel, so that means people need to go see it.
Seriously, it's worth it.

Love your Dredd outfit Joe.
Though I honestly love 3D and everything about it. So...yeah that I stand completely opposite of you. And as a projectionist would say that the 'brightness' debate is definitely theater to theater. Our orders are generally to always set them to max luminosity; but it also comes down to the projector type and what format they got their film on.
We got a 4K 3D and 2D version of Dredd; so the 3D looked near exactly the same as the 2D in terms of brightness/color on the Sony projectors.

@cattz
The movie is fairly low budget and an adaptation on a franchise that isn't really all that well known to the general public. I imagine that, in order to even get the movie funded, they'd have had to agree to make it a 3D film.
So I can't really take anything from the film makers on "Pandering to the 3-D crowds" when it was probably something pushed by some studio suit.
Though I managed to catch a 2D viewing at my local cinema rather than have to suffer through a 3D movie. They don't tend to give me headaches as most people report but I do find it distracting and it can make action look really blurry.

09.26.2012 - 00:08 | DisappearingBearsGreat opening skit, Joe, though I didn't realize it was Bizarro Joe at first and nearly flew into a rage! Guys, this is a great action movie. It beats the Expendables II easily and if anyone tells you not to see it, don't listen to them unless you're squeamish.

Also, respect for being the first review I've either heard or read for Dredd that didn't go on about how similar the plot is to that of The Raid.

I don't have time to watch the review but I just wanted to leave a comment.
Saw this movie yesterday and my friend and I kept laughing. For a silly reason. I remember Bioware saying they took inspiration from Judge Dredd for Mass Effect. So I honestly kept thinking "This is Renegade Shepard the movie" I'm not trying to say they're the same but it gave us something to laugh at while we were seriously enjoying the movie. Whoever played Dredd was great considering we never see his face. I can't imagine that being easy to work with.

the creator of judge Dredd did thought of Dredd never removing his helmet off but for the original story he based the still covered face of dredd on the face of Silvester Stallone
this was years before the movie of course

I do hope it becomes a franchise, because I want to see my favorite Dredd villains, the Dark Judges, Judge Death, Judge Fear, Judge Fire and Judge Mortis.
Also, I think the 1995 movie would've been better if they focused on the then main villains of the comic, the Angels, instead of just showing them for 5 minutes then killing them all off. I mean, they were SUPERMUTANTS for gods sake. Mean alone went through a whole megablock when his dial got stuck.
I understand that Mama had to become the villain here due to the SloMo, but they could've had her as a secondary villain and put some of Dredds main villains in... I've noticed that a lot lately, already established villains take the back seat and newly created villains take their place when a comic-based movie is remade.

09.26.2012 - 04:54 | MalidictusFrankly, I was never a fan of the comic books and the "graphic novels," which is why I liked the Sly Stalone movie - because it's NOT like that. Violence, grit and satire are three things I actually dislike in movies and games.
*edit*
And quite frankly, I'm getting tired of the anti-CGI Luddite arguments. If I can watch and enjoy movies like Spirits Within, Shrek or the Appleseed remake, I can enjoy a movie with CGI in it.

09.26.2012 - 10:43 | MaskedGuyEh, I don't mind 3D, though it would be better if it was used well more often.(I've never seen 3D live action movie though so I don't know if they are used well only in animation movies)
Anyway, does it add to cost a lot in USA? I remember movies being somewhat expensive over there compared to prices here..(though I guess 7 or 8 euro is still expensive?)
Edit: 28 dollars for 3d? O_o Wow movies are overpriced in US...

Well lone wolf 3d did add to the movie Hugo and actually made it better, since film is a visual art afterall(story comes second). Then there are really gimmicky ones like drive angry and My bloody valentine 3d that appeal to my trashy side. Other than that I agree, not worth it most of the time, but it stopped giving headaches after awhile.

Awesome, the Angry Movie Reviews are back!
I fucking LOVED Dredd. I can't can't beleive how close it came to portary that urban hellhole feeling from the 2000 A.D comics. One thing, though: If they do a sequel PLEASE make it about the Robot Wars story arc. Call-Me-Kenneth voiced by Kevin Spacey would rule the Negaverse.

I'm going to have to disagree on 3D. When done right 3D is very good. Personally, I think the best film that has done 3D right is Prometheus. The Prequel to aliens. I was...just. The sandstorm to the hologram computers. Btw, when I saw the trailer of this movie I thought this was going to bad. Angry Joe makes me want to watch it.
