game looks pretty appealing and cant wait to try it out! (even though it might cost me a fortune to get the turn table and the game at the same time lol)I never played DJ HERO before but it wouldn't hurt give it a shot. But i might have to skip the singing though...looks a bit much for my taste....
Also at 6:09-6:34 that was a pretty good mix there joe! :D battle mode sounds pretty fun as well!

I do agree that the singing was not necessary for this game unless you're like at a party or something.
The cross fader is a pain to get used to. Needs more noise or stability because you're all over the place with it if you're new to it.
And NO DAFT PUNK!? Augh! I do hope DJ 1 songs come in DLC.
Hilarious djing btw. =P

My main gripw with DJ hero is that while it's fun, it's not innovative nor is it encouraging more people to become DJs.
If they only added two turntables and the ability to download songs from Beatport and Juno, it could make alot of people interested in the DJ Culture.
And no Dubstep music. no Dubstep? Seriously?

Not innovative? Compared to how the music-rhythm genre built itself up thus far, DJ Hero isn't innovative? EDIT: In terms of encouraging DJs - in the grand scheme of things, it's more important for the developers to have made a good game about the culture/feel of DJing than it would have been to make a simulation of actually being a DJ (which I'm still trying to figure out HOW you could make a game like that, while making it fun and approachable for most music-rhythm game fans).
In addition, the licensing/design issues with downloading any song you want would diminish the gameplay quality. The songs and stages are all very well crafted, which requires that songs are personally mashed up by the developers and then turned into the stages.
In terms of the lack of dubstep, there's a lot of genres that aren't represented much or at all if you get down to it, but what is done in the game is fantastic - have you listened over what the soundtrack is for DJH2?

Well you're kinda right, Skitch
But if you look at new technologies like the Novation Dicer, somehow it manages to make the experience of DJing feel like an exciting video game. If they manage to bring in something like the Dicer into Dj hero 3, i'd totally play it. Also, Traktor Kontrol X1 and the Vestax VFX-1 could also make good additions to DJ hero 3 if Activision wants to bring more MIDI controllerism into the game.
And in terms of licensing music, i think a really cool idea would to have Beatport or Juno making mashups for the game and then being able to download it for you to play. I heard that Activision is planning to do something like this so i think it'd be a really cool idea.
And yeah, the soundtrack for DJ Hero 2 has an amazing playlist for those new to DJing, but it felt more like an Ministry of Sound Compilation album which is okay. I would love to see some representation of DnB and Dubstep, and also Breaks and Miami Bass for DJ hero 3. Also, Girl Talk should also be involved. That, i'd like to see.

True enough on some of those other genres that could get more representation. It's just a tough topic, because SO MANY styles of Rap/Hiphop and electronic music either are centered around, or can utilize, the turntable as a medium, so it's hard for them to hit everything and keep it balanced, I would suspect. If anything, given feedback to the developers about what you want to hear specifically couldn't hurt. I like how there are more DnB tracks in this sequel, and I'm sure they're planning on more of that, for example.
While it's true that they could add in something like the Dicer as a mechanic, that would create a split in the hardware usage (which could be a problem), but then that detracts from a bigger issue. Is making a game that's a more realistic simulation of DJing something that would make the game more fun to play for most people, while at the same time remaining financially viable? I've thought about this topic in extreme depth, and I'm sure the developers did too when they originally designed the controller and core mechanics.
At the end of the day, making a pure simulation isn't always the best solution when conveying an experience to a player in the context of a game. As a training tool it'd be great, naturally, but as something that's supposed to act first and foremost as a game? I'm not so sure, and that is ultimately where the developers have to use their best judgement of what creates the most cohesive experience, and fosters the best experience for players of a wide range of interests and skill levels.
Lastly, with regards to an outside group providing mashups - as long as the licensing is something Activision can secure, and as long as Freestyle Games are the main folks designing the actual gameplay component of the songs, something like that could be cool...DJ Hero really, really requires a human touch when making the stages, as there is no easy way of 'generating' a track through pure algorithmic/procedural approaches.

11.02.2010 - 06:56 | ckyvickSkitch i looked up the soundtrack and theres actually a few good djs on there, and theres a good mix of varying styles which is fine. I just never liked peripheral based rhythm games i guess. But i play guitar so i might be checking out the next generation if they are developed well enough.
Love your work btw, which instruments can you play?

Good thing that you're not basing your opinion of the full game on a narrow selection of the game's music.
Oh.
Wait.
Look, I don't care if someone doesn't care for the game, but there's simply far too much bashing thrown at this game by people who don't bother to really look at what the game has to offer, both in its musc, and its gameplay.

I don't really know much about royalties and copy rights but I would kill if they released these songs on CDs or in iTunes. There fun to play but I'm a really big music nerd and I don't wanna turn on my xbox or watch a crappy resolution video just to hear one or two songs. I assume there's something preventing them from doing this but if not, then why not sell them. I heard the first DJ Hero soundtrack is on TPB and I'm hoping they either release the songs or someone have a torrent.
