Considering picking in it up =D
But I heard that there is a lot of computer requirements like Spoony had to upgrade x.x
Yes, I remember when civ 4 came out, I had to build a new computer, because my crappy computer at the time wasn't even close to meeting the games prerequisites, I hope I don't have to repeat that process. XD

Seriously Civ 5s requirements...WHY ARE THEY SO HIGH!? A Quad core processor...4 gbs of ram...for recommended...dual core at least and 2 gbs of ram for minimal? Damn man wtf lol looking at the graphics and game play. I love PC games I love RTS games but when they jack up requirements like that and rape your wallet just to be able to play the game it sucks. Luckily Starcraft 2 thought about that...lol

I've heard a lot of long-time Civ fans complain about this game. I've not played the Civ games before this one either, but nearly every older civilization fan I speak to is either disappointed or outright pissed off at this new version.
The only thing I hear from them is that it's too dumbed down for the sake of inviting new players into the experience, and that it lacks the depth the older games had. Diplomacy - one of the things Joe complained about - also sounds like it was handled better. Combat has been improved, but it sounds like everything else has suffered for the sake of simplifying the game for new players to get in to, at the cost of alienating their previous fanbase.
If you're a veteran Civilization fan, I urge you to speak to others before picking up this game. You might feel like you wasted your money and end up going back to Civ 4. However, for newer Civ fans like me and Joe, I can say first hand that this game is an excellent introduction to the series. I'm probably going to buy Civ 4 now, because of what I hear from long-time fans about how it's an overall better game, just less newbie-friendly.

I'll tell you bro, I played the crap out of the second one, and missed out until Revolution. After playing that game on xbl (happened to get a new computer soon afterward) I picked up 4 and was completely overwhelmed my first few games. On the other-hand, I'm already on emperor on 5. They're both really fun, and quite frankly the only thing I'm missing is the ability to undermine rivals near your borders with religion.

09.26.2010 - 22:16 | leftlerHey Joe, you can easily track who you are at war with by clicking the left most button of the three big buttons on the top right of the screen. Also anyone who is "Hostel" towards you will not accept any trades, that could have been your problem with Elizabeth.

As somebody who began his long oddyssy of playing the Civilization franchise with Civ II Multy-Player GoldEdition, You don't know how happy seeing those old FMV advisiors made me. I've started digging into Civ V and I have mixed feelings about it, though mostly positive at this point.
Good review. And good luck to you getting another one done in the near future. Or playing anything but Civ V for the next few weeks.

It's good to see that the core from the first game (Colonization for DOS) is still there, but at a first glance it looks like a carbon copy of Civilization II.
All the things Joe talked about here were present in CivII, except for the 1 unit/square-limit.
The advisors never told you what to do, they advised you when you wanted them to (there was a menu for that).
I guess I'll just have to buy the game and try it out :psychotic:

09.26.2010 - 23:45 | MetalMike007Well, technically, your advisors do tell you what you should do, and also on what to build, but they're much more in the background, in a menu in the top-right, but it is a lot more anemic esp. compared to Civ IV. In fact, a lot of diehard Civ fans are complaining that they changed a lot from Civ IV, including the much more in-depth diplomacy and a lot of details like religion, which no longer is a factor, and spying, which is also completely removed. The problem with those features was that they took up too much time and resources, because basically with religion you had to attempt to please every other ruler who wanted you to join their religion, and there were a ton of problems you'd run into if some of your cities got converted to other religions, such as lowered production, etc. The problem is that they didn't bother to fix these problems, they just took them out of the game, which seems kind of childish. From what I've heard from developers, a lot of the inspiration for this game was "Civilization: Revolution," the console game they put out a few years ago. The problem with that was that that game was ridiculously watered down, and if you beat one game, you beat them all. Here though, I think there is a lot more depth, and you're right, it is EXTREMELY ADDICTING.
However, I think the biggest flaw is that the civilizations are incredibly unbalanced because of their bonuses. For example, if you play as the Germans, you automatically can get a huge army at the beginning of the game, since your bonus is that you have a 50/50 chance of having barbarians join your side if you defeat them in their camp. If you have barbarians popping up even at the default rate, this means you can have an enormous army very quickly, without spending any money - in fact, you GET money every time this happens. If they're just warriors and you're in the modern age, just bring them into your territory and upgrade the shit out of them - it's still faster than building an army.
It's small things like this that don't make the game perfect, but it's still probably my favorite in the series, and I've been playing since Civ II and Civ: Call to Power.

09.27.2010 - 00:02 | KingofMadCowsCivilization is a great series but it is time consuming and not everyone can enjoy it. If you don't have the patience for slower paced turn based games like Civ, then you'll probably enjoy games like Heroes of Might and Magic or King's Bounty much more.
