09.11.2010 - 23:32 | ddrkreatureYou know, I'm one of the few that actually liked the Resident Evil movies simply because they're good "popcorn flix" to me. And the way the Zombies get their ass handed to them is awesome. I did plan to see this with my bro whom is 2 years older and feels the same way I do but I agree Joe. We are not ready for 3D yet. I have heard the 3D TVs work as advertised but I'm still not convinced were there yet. maybe 3 more years or so and I'll give it a chance. But anyway, I am still going to see this, just in 2D though

09.12.2010 - 16:24 | SqueejeeBut you can't say this is a popcorn movie either, those action scenes are SO SLOW PACED and SO BORING because they have NO TENSION! Even just watching the selections Angry Joe put in here pisses me off at how badly they're done, but the movie left me wanting to RAMPAGE and MURDER all of Hollywood for letting this shit happen.
What the RE series needs is a reboot with a real HORROR MOVIE DIRECTOR! Get back to RE1's roots - a mansion, tense encounters, and a real FEAR of what's around the next corner. That is what the game's fans want, and it's what fans of the the horror genre want, so why the hell not?

Actually, I just saw this tonight. The 3-D is surprisingly decent. Yes, there are parts which are a bit...how shall I say, "fuzzed." But overall, the 3D works on a level that the dialogue and acting don't. If you're a fan of the games, well, it's 50-50.
But otherwise, I'd actually suggest you see it in 3D. It just works better.

09.12.2010 - 06:21 | merkamerkaOkay I don't mean to sound dumb or rude but is spending 13$s really a bust in your pocket? Not that it isn't a overpriced movie ticket but that seems over-exaggerated. Great review though.

It can be when you paying for an additional gimmick that doesn't always work. 3D movies were regularly priced while IMAX giant screen showings were premium priced. When the 3D fad exploded they raised ticket prices, so yeah 13 dollars may not seem like much but when you consider that it's because of a fad and a gimmick it can get annoying.
-
01.08.2011 - 09:45 | Dragono1130well 13$ wouldn't be such a bad price for a movie if it was good. I mean, if you have a RedBox nearby, that's 1 dollar. Netflix is like 9$ a month for all the movies you want. The only problem is that you have to wait for the movies with them.
The main issue with the 13$ price tag is that people don't want to invest that much money into something they might not like. Especially in this economy where it seems that every penny counts. We don't want to waste the money we earn on things we are gonna end up hating.

I can't believe that this film even exists, let alone that they're considering a fifth! Seriously, that's the definition of beating a dead horse right there.

09.12.2010 - 09:29 | whatever42
If Hollywood sees a way to make money, they quite often don't care how they do it, so these films continue to be made. It doesn't matter how badly it butchers it's source material. :sigh:
Trying to incorporate stuff from the games didn't go well the first time they did it in Apocalypse. Why did they think it would help here? You know, I didn't even mind the first movie so much because they didn't use very much from the games. It was seperate and because they didn't try to shoehorn things in, I wasn't really mad. It definitely wasn't a good movie, but it could've been a lot worse. Then the games were incorporated directly and it took the biggest nosedive it could.
I'm not surprised to see a fifth one will be made. Not at all. I won't go see it, just like I won't see this one, just like I didn't see Extinction. Nice review Joe. I think we all knew it would be this way, but I'm still entertained to see your review. =)
What did you mean that Resident Evil is raping the game series? RE5 was really good.
RE5 was mediocre. RE4's gameplay was better, and it didn't have an infuriatingly stupid AI partner. Also, RE5's story was utter garbage, and it had the most disappointing ending ever.
Furthermore, you're never supposed to fight Wesker during gameplay. He's too badass to interact with the player directly. Also, Wesker's ultimate motivation was the lamest, most cliched thing ever.
And seriously, Sheva? Who the hell is Sheva? Resident Evil has tons of characters to work with, and yet you get Sheva, and you never learn anything about her.
Finally, blond Jill? Seriously, why the hell is she blond, and why the hell does she hiss like a cat when you encounter her in the game? That is way, way too stupid.

I saw Phelous' thoughts on this movie, and apparently the next one in the franchise is going to be a reboot.
Using exactly the same plot of the first film.
So basically you'll get no resolution to the sequel bait at the end of this film and you'll get a reprise of a shitty movie.
PS: Your intro was damn funny.

I confess that I kind of enjoy the film series as silly, guilty pleasure action films. But what I don't get is why they focus so much on original stories why adding elements of the RE games? It makes them look like fanfics that take the original stories from the game and create their take on it. It looks as if they want to appeal to movie audiences and the RE fans, but ends up pleasing none.
And yes, while I don't have a beef with 3D movies they are certainly overstaying their welcome, especially if some movies don't work well at all with it.

I guess I should copy over my youtube comment then.
"Wow, Way to kill Three Birds with one stone.
The Overuse of 3D in films. (Still wanna see TRON:Legacy in 3D)
Video Games Films (Next year comes the Halo film. yay)
Resident Evil Films (Which I can stand, But my Dad loves)
I hate to go against you here AngryJoe. But my Dad is going to see this film; And Im going aswell. I dont expect much - But I already have a pare of 3D Glasses so I might aswell see it.
The first two were Ok. I didn't like the Third film. So im going to laugh at the 4th film."
And yes that doesn't make alot of sence. I had to cut sentences out to fit it with in youtube's character limit.

09.12.2010 - 18:45 | RadeltaWhats already having glasses got anything to do with it? its not like they let you in for cheaper if you already own a pair.

09.12.2010 - 07:28 | deathmaster168Thanks for recommending me not to see this. I'm happy to say I never watched the resident evil films and after watching Phelous' videos about the other films I stand resolute in that. Yeah 3D is just a stupid gimmick. Way to get the word out Joe!!!!!

"the typical thing to say would be that it's like watching someone playing a videogame. This, however, would be unfair, as there are some games that are actually quite entertaining to watch"
Which is kinda true.
You know what i'd like to see? If PWSA did RE3 just like the RE2 game with Claire and Leon as main characters and RE4 just like the RE4 game with Leon as a main character while have set in i don't know...Spain instead of a post-apocalyptic setting? meh, i think it'd never happen.

that did look pretty bad T_T , and there is no way in hell I'm seeing it in theaters but i probably will buy it when it comes out on DVD just cause those movies hold a special place in my heart. besides it seems the crappier the movie the faster they try to get it out on DVD so ill probably only have to wait a month. awesome review though

Man, you just keep getting better and better =D
I remember watching your first vids ; Back then you looked like a guy that was trying too hard and was just awkward to watch.
Today, you (with Spoony and Obscurus Lupa) are my favorite reviewer on TGWTG.
Keep up the good work ese, btw GREAT ending and yes, FfffUCK 3D

Gotta disagree here this is hardly the worse in the franchise. That would be extinction.
Exctinction was horrible with no redeeming factors.
Afterlife to me was decent enough.
Though I only saw it for wesker so you could have cut out the whole middle and given me only the parts with wesker and I'd have been happy.
Still I can see why others such as yourself can be so dissapointed in the movie

Take the money the 3D ticket costs and go buy Resident Evil: Degeneration.
Seriously, you'll be way happier with that.
It's like watching a nicely animated 90 minutes cut-scene, it has actual characters from the games and while it has it's flaws, it's way more RE than any of these life action abominations will ever be.
-
09.12.2010 - 07:47 | SazzI've been a fan of Resident Evil for more than a decade and this guy is right. I stopped asking for Resident Evil movies after Apocalypse.

09.12.2010 - 07:48 | KariEverytime someone bitches about 3D but doesn't mention this, I feel I have to. THIRTY PERCENT OF PEOPLE CAN'T EVEN USE IT. I think that number may actually be significantly higher if you expand "just plain can't" to "suffers a raging headache from". Seriously, movie industry? You want to convert completely and lose the business of that many people?
And yes, 13.50 IS that big of a pocket gouge with the economy the way it is. For those of you questioning this, envision yourself as the breadwinner of a family containing two children or more and they want to go to the movies this weekend!

Loved the review, Joe. Can't say I was surprised it sucked, though, but thanks for the warning anyway lol.

I have to disagree with you here. Ive been sick of 3-d since avatar really, so i saw this one for the cheap on gp. Those reaper rip offs were plaga zombies from RE4. Big nasty is a result of the fact that the T virus effects some people differently (Alice, Wesker, Bosses). I was pissed when it seemed like luthor got killed too. But most of all that chick at the end isnt new. I thought the same thing but its someone from a prior movie that looks different.
-
09.12.2010 - 08:08 | BlazingOwnagerThis movie wasn't good. This movie was bat shit. This movie was awesome.
I know it's the cool thing to hate on 3D, but it was utterly awesome in this film being properly shot - the first movie in 3D worth watching since Avatar.
And yes, the plot is ludicrous beyond all reason. Yes, things happen out of nowhere and they blurred the context between the movies and the game. Yes, it's purely on crack. But like I said, it is still Goddamn awesome.
If you check logic at the door, have a passing familiarity with the games (including the 5th) and just enjoy the ride, it's an awesome movie and a great theater experience. It's not high art, but it is just fun as hell to watch.
Seriously, no critic is going into this film with the right mindset. There's a reason there's such a huge divide between Critics and User Reviews on Rottentomatoes, and anywhere else. If you go into any of the RE films expecting anything less than pure madness with awesome set pieces chained together, you're already screwed.
EDIT: If you don't really remember or know anything about Resident Evil 5, there's going to be lots of stuff that will confusing as hell (Who's this? What's that?) but honestly my friends that never played it dug it anyway because even if you DO know, it's still pure madness. In a good way.
I mean for Christ's sake the scene in the opening that's supposed to be the start of your anger is a shot for shot remake of a major scene in the game, I can hardly get mad about that.

09.12.2010 - 15:05 | HichcootNo this movie just sucks! I mean Crank and Crank 2 High Voltage were stupid and over the top, but they made them like that on purpose! And that make those movies amazing!
This movie was trying to be good and cool and totally failed!
Not to mention the over use of solow motion and that in almost every shot that Millas was on, they tried to make her look sexy even when she was fighting... its like the director is saying ´´ Look!! My wife is hot! You gotta hire her to make your movies look better!!!``
