09.09.2010 - 01:33 | PersistanceofDaliI too was the only Latino in my theater...but we all had a blast. Great movie.

09.09.2010 - 01:34 | ShingoEXBox office revenue is almost an afterthought, especially when it comes to grindhouse films. Any losses will EASILY be made up through DVD/BD sales for the home market. This movie will make plenty of profit in the long run.

09.09.2010 - 02:05 | new_fate26And I was the only white guy in my showing.
On the other hand Joe, I disagree with you about that third act. That was where it really fell apart for me. After *SPOILER* Fahey's character Boothe died it all just felt the writing seemed a little forced together. The first three quarters of the story hold themselves together as a revenge flick with the political undertones, but once it becomes all about the message and not about the revenge, all I cared for was seeing the really creative kills they were throwing onscreen. (Seriously, one guy dies by being crushed by a lowrider truck. Pure Awesome.) Also, I wish Rodriguez's character had been the romantic lead. She easily is one of the best characters in the film and I would have infanately preffered to see her in "Machete Kills" and "Machete Kills Again" instead of Alba.
Still all and all a great film and a good review.

=D this movie is badass i think robert rodrigues is the best mexican director right now. i think ur review was spot on.....nice. but i would of given it an 8/10.

I really liked this one.
It amuses me, because I always get your final verdicts right XD
I always guess what you'll give and I have never gotten the wrong =)
Lindsay Lohan, well if Jessica Alba can't act, I think Lohan is worse. But who cares if the rest of the film is great. And machete jumping out of the window into the next one grabing the intestins is epic!
I have to see the movie! Hopefully they let us see it in the cinemas...

09.09.2010 - 02:52 | LeoHowlerHuh... you know, when I saw the preview of this movie, all I could think was "This looks stupid". But you know what? You've changed my mind. It's Grindhouse: it's supposed be to be crazy and stupid.
I think I'll go see this. Thank you Joe, you've given me something to do this weekend. :3

09.09.2010 - 03:25 | Moreno XI'm sorry Joe, but I've seen Scott Pligrim and The Expendables, and in the end, I have to say that Scott Pligrim OWNS The Expendables. What you'd said about The Expendables' fun ride and all really isn't there. And I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate to say this: I hated The Expendables. Not that it's a worst or bad movie, no. I'm applying as of it's purpose to give us a throwback of the 80s and 90s action films. The main problem is that those old films had charm in it and that kept us talk about them. As for The Expendables, it has no charm and it's pretty forgettable. =( What's worse as well that it's boring. Everything that The Expendables tried to accomplish belongs to Scott Pligrim because that film fulfill unexpectedly and brings so much AWSOMENESS XD !!!
So what does Machete has that The Expendables don't? Nothing. Which is why that after watching your review of Machete doesn't hyped me up to see it because it's another film that will not be that awsome like Scott Pligrim. Exploitation or not. And no I don't watch exploitation films that much. I'm not into those things, sorry :sigh: .
Look Joe, these pass two weeks, I watched Cinema Snob and Spoony's both reviews on The Expendables and Scott Pligrim. In the end, I'm going to agree on Spoony's verdict that Scott Pligrim is going to be remembered in years to come while The Expendables is going to be forgettable. At this point, I don't know what's going on with the three of you - yourself, Cinema Snob and Spoony - and listening to Spoony saying that you said to him that if he didn't like The Expendables that much, he's not gonna like Scott Pligrim either. First question Joe, from latino to another: Are you high, hermano? :dizzy:
Anyway, I'm sure you have your reasons and I have mine. Unfortunately for you, I'm not going to say I had a great time with The Expendables. So what makes you think I'll enjoy Machete? I don't know whatelse to say. Look, I like Robert Rodriguez. He's a good director. I his first Spy Kids films sounds fun to see and I'm looking forward to see his 2003 film Once Upon A Time in Mexico. I heard it is a great film; great the way it is.
So yeah, Scott Pligrim rules all. Too bad Joe. I think you're better off reviewing video games than movies. Nice review though.
P.S.: Oh, and about you being disappointed of latins not seeing Machete, I think they had other things to do and decided to skip it. Personally amigo, they don't show that much latino pride openly than they use to. I'm sure they do, but it appears they're showing latino pride elsewhere than doing it in the theaters with Machete. I'm just saying Joe, but it's possible. I have few latin friends and none of them are telling me if they saw Machete. If they did, I'm sure they'll say that Scott Pligrim still rules a lot than The Expendables and Machete. That is all.

I was about to say the exact, same thing regarding Machete. The Machete in Spy Kids was played by the exact, same actor, had the same name AND was a weapons expert. Not to mention that the movie was directed by Robert Rodriguez as well.
In my crazy fanboy logic, I believe that the Spy Kids Machete is actually the same Machete from this movie, but retired and a good guy... XD
Silly, no?

09.09.2010 - 08:29 | inhibitorproductions718i cant believe u didnt mention cheech's role. also i too am a huge fan of robert rodriguez's films.

Hey angry joe you should have mention that the kid that played juni in spy kids is in this movie and kicks some ass lol
-
09.09.2010 - 12:46 | whatever42
Really? I wouldn't have guessed that that kid would be in here. That's actually pretty cool.
Anyway, nice review Joe. I, apparently like many others, didn't have any idea what this movie was about, and now I do. Grindhouse movies are definitey ... interesting. There isn't too much else like them.
Personally, I don't think I'm going to see this movie. I have nothing against it, but I have many other things to do, and I don't think I would be too fond of this. I'm not the biggest fan of Grindhouse. Still, it's cool to hear your opinion on it Joe. I always love your skits. =D
