Good review, Joe!
Actually, with the heavy TV show theme it reminds me a bit of Midway's Smash TV, though far more focused on character classes than on shooting random stuff up. Speaking of characters, people will indeed and try to make comparisons to Team Fortress 2, but games like Team Fortress 2 were around before said game was released.
Even if the game isn't character class based a player would adapt his gameplay style based on the weapon or skills he has. Why do you think there are players that play defensively more than others? The difference is that these games created gameplay based around this concept.
The only similarities I see between the two games is in the art style, and even then there are enough differences to tell them apart.
Wasn't Team Fortress's Art Style similar to The Incredibles?
Sort of, they were both influenced by the art of Joseph Christian Leyendecker, an illustrator from the early 20th century.
I know that as I'm such an art nerd :D
But why won't anyone say "it's like ShadowRun"??? Why have none of you played such an awesome game?

Shadowrun leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of those of us who grew up playing the tabletop game it was "based" upon. When the FASA Corporation closed its doors in 2001, the future of the franchise was uncertain. When news of a Shadowrun game in development hit the public, many fans were hopeful of a resurrection of the beloved RPG franchise. We then found out the game would be an FPS that would go on to barely utilize its source material, and more or less bury the franchise rather than resurrect it.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's certainly a decent shooter. I just happen to hate it as a Shadowrun fan.

08.17.2010 - 15:36 | DrachShadowrun the Pen and Paper game? or the SNES game? or the Xbox/Windows game? lol
I see it being similar to the recent Shadowrun game.. however, it's nothing like the pen and paper RPG that I love so much. =D

08.16.2010 - 01:01 | rcivitIt looks like a good game, but what you said about having to escort your bots to the enemy base... well, I don't know. Obviously it makes the game a lot different from other games that have a similar gameplay but if there's something I have always hated in games is having escort missions.
I guess that when they release a sequel to this game, there will be more game modes to choose from.

08.16.2010 - 02:47 | UK_DudeI see the use of the word 'addicting' a lot in the gaming genre, but it's a word that makes no sense in the context. The actual word is 'addictive'. e.g. The game is addictive.
Addicting would be used like, "The developers are trying to gain cash by addicting people to the game.".
Sorry, had to jump in with that, it seems primarily an Americanism but it's just one of those things that make me go Argh.

Besides that you can get stuff done in MNC? Seriously, I've played a lot of TF2, and there are certain map and gametype combos that make it so that it is virtually impossible to win, thus making games essentially never end and drag like hell. Even under favorable conditions, where I built a teleporter directly under the enemy along with an ammo dispenser and turrets covering the entrances, my team couldn't get their intel, and they couldn't get ours. It was like a virtual limbo. At least it looks like in this game things actually happen in a match, thank god... :dizzy:

This game is hella fun although I sorta think the assassin class is a little overpowered. But I know thats just bitterness from her grapple-killing me so many times...evil fucking bitch...
But trust me its worth your 1200 MS points
p.s. Joe the teams are the IceMEN and the Hotshots

you should check out League of Legends

I agree with you Joe to an extent. I feel there wasn't enough head room for leveling up during a match.
Also, I was very disappointed that there is only ONE map for Blitz mode. I prefer playing co-op more than PvP so this let me down tremendously. Crossfire = 3 maps. Blitz = One Map. That's BS.
The custom class thing put me off as well. Just picking sponsors seems like something that would have fit in with a story mode. It's not really a custom class when I only pick three perks. Why not different weapons or skills as well?
All in all, I do like this game. I just don't think it's worth the 1200 MS points I paid for it. I've bought Indie games with more maps and options for only 40 MS points. It's just one of those games that gets old quick.
Yeah you can rank up but there are no perks for doing so. I loved doing a Survival match and getting to round 51, but there's nothing that makes me want to go back.
Still a good game, it's just not as good as I had hoped. I personally thought the Co-Op in Castlevania: Harmony of Despair was lots better. You can get multiple spells, buy new equipment, level up, and play with six buds. That game just has a lot more variety than MNC.
I hope the sequel is a lot better. Kind of felt like Shadowrun mixed with TF2 with a hint of Tower Defense.
And yes Larry... Shadowrun was the shit. I wish they'd make more games like that. But if you haven't tried it, Section 8 is pure awesome. I'm still wondering why it got such poor reviews. Team Deathmatch + Random Objectives + Bots = Liquid Awesome.

-
08.16.2010 - 06:00 | starwolf333See, this is what Spike Games should've done. Uber is a new company, no games to its name yet, and went balls out with their budget. The result? Pure awesome. I admit, the six maps gets a bit repetitive, but I still find myself playing the hell out of the game. Yeah, it's a bit pricier than The Deadliest Warrior 'game' but I've got my money's worth and so much more out of it already.
I just hope that Uber does more with this universe. The world MNC alludes to is so dang interesting, I really want to see more.
Also, just a thing about the multiple teams? Different teams should get different sponsors, which enhance various things. That's my 2 cents worth.
