I can't stand Will Ferral, he was best as a supporting role in zoolander.

Thank you AJ for saving me 7$

Well this was interesting to see, I may wait till it comes out on DVD or something.

Thanks again for the review Joe.

I'm trying to think of the last comedy I saw in theaters that I actually thought was funny. Sofar I can only think of Scary Movie 1 & Kill Bill. The problem is rarely the actors; we just have shit writers with a 3ed grader's sence of humor.

Umm, which is these funniest jokes am I supposed to be laughing at?

This movie seems to suffer from "actors acting like they're acting." I would expect that from a villain in a kids' movie.

I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothin' at all, but I think you're moving too fast.

The Rotten Tomatoes score doesn't suprise me; I never agree with their ratings on anything. & the users troll on you if your review goes against the score.

I enjoyed Dinner with Shmucks. I'm not sure I'd see it a second time in the theatre, but it might be worth renting at home or watching on Netflix when it gets it's released.

Also, thanks for saving me money, Joe!

Kill Bill was a comedy? Fuck. That's a revelation. It explains a lot, too.

I was thinking of seeing this movie, but I guess it's not as good as I thought it was going to be. Thanks for the heads-up, AJ!

This movie has an 80% or so on RottenTomatoes.com

I saw this move...and I agree with that 80%. It was good. For once, I completely disagree with Joe.

Bound to happen. But I dont think you disagree as much as you think. The movie is barely average and has a few good jokes that were mostly in the trailer - it drags until its half-assed conclusion. No one will look back fondly on this one.

Your 9.50 would be better spent on Scott P or Expendables I anticipate.

"But I dont think you disagree as much as you think. The movie is barely average and has a few good jokes that were mostly in the trailer - it drags until its half-assed conclusion. No one will look back fondly on this one."

You can't really say that, Joe. YOU won't look back fondly on it... but that doesn't mean NO ONE will. I just saw this movie today, and I honestly it's one of Will Ferrell's best. I loved it from beginning to end. I thought it was funny, entertaining, well-acted, and surprisingly well-written, and it's easily the best comedy I've seen all year. During most comedy movies, I look at my watch at least once, but I never did during this one. I found it thoroughly entertaining and fun, all the way around.

Different strokes for different folks, man. May not have been your cup of tea, but that doesn't mean no one else will feel differently.

I was about to say this. Haven't seen it myself, but I want to. It's a little unfair to try and say what will and won't be forgotten or remembered, Joe. I doubt it's anything spectacular, but it looks like Hot Fuzz Lite to me, and if that's the case I know I'll get enjoyment out of it. Speak for yourself from your own experience, man, don't try to talk for others. Don't mean to sound harsh or anything, of course.
• AngryJoeShow

o_O o_O o_O
Wow! Wyrdwad the best comedy all year? Please watch more comedies!

It gets better than Will Ferrell Yelling Loudly and acting like a man child while women throw themselves at him for no reason. The pimp joke was just creepy and unfunny.

For sure different tastes.
• FileDeleted
Then why don't you speak for yourself, go see "Hot Fuzz Lite" then tell yourself if you liked or not. He's not putting words in anyone's mouth, fondly can mean that ethier they hated it or it's easily forgotten it's a generalization, or even a prediction.

But seriously "Hot Fuzz"? The movie which plot revovles around an ace policeman transfered to a small town where his anal attitude about the law causes unrest for him and his chubby and goofball partner? What in what shape or idea does a buddy, buddy cop parody even relate to that?
• SpecterM91
avatar
Except, he is putting words in others' mouths. "No one will remember this" or "no one will look back fondly on this." That's Joe trying to speak for the millions of people who will see this movie and either enjoy it or dislike it, and that isn't fair.

You're acting like the two comedic buddy cop movies are in no way comparable. It's like saying "Dark City? The bleak scifi action thriller where humans are having their world and reality manipulated by a more powerful force, which is only stoppable by one human with the power to resist? How is THAT even remotely comparable to The Matrix!" Similar setups, seemingly similar style, so on and so forth. Seriously, lighten up.
• BigTopBrain  - Hot Fuzz Lite?!?!
avatar
Doesn't the "Lite" part of that kinda negate the humor? The fact that Hot Fuzz was balls-to-the-walls was a huge part of it's attraction. Removing that requires an adjustment to some serious tongue-in-cheek attitude.

Btw, reviewers put words in peoples' mouths all the time. Yeah, it would be nice if we all communicated perfectly, but we don't; I think you knew what he was trying to say anyway.
• SpecterM91
avatar
No, the "Lite" part points out that it's likely nowhere near the level of Hot Fuzz but may still be entertaining to people who enjoyed it.

I knew exactly what he meant, but I'm still going to call people out when they try and tell people what they do and don't like, or something to that effect. Choose your words more carefully and you won't have to have arguments like that. Simply saying "I don't like this," or "this doesn't seem like something I'll remember once it's out of the theaters" makes a review sound much more fair and professional.

I wanted to see more of Samuel L Jackson and "The Rock" but it had some moments that had me trying to breath between laughs, I just got through watching Pulp Fiction and I was hoping for a reference or something to any famous line of his from any famous movie.
• mkzimmer
Personally, I loved the movie. Thought it was great. Laughed through most of it. Wasn't a waste of money for me, but it was free since I work at a movie theater. I'd gladly pay $9.50, regardless though.

Thank's for the info Joe, good review as always. I think it's a shame this wasn't a good film as comedy action films, when done well can be truly hilarious. Plus thanks for showing us the sexy Eva Mendes pics, that woman is gorgeous.

I've seen reviews for this movie go all over the board. Some people rather liked it and others, like you Joe, did not. I probably won't be seeing it because I don't often shell out money for movies unless I'm sure I'll like it or practically every reviewer I find says that a movie is great.

Nonetheless, it's still nice to see another opinion on the movie. Every one helps. =)

You're spot on again Joe.

Seriously, it's like the firm was made as a short for Sun-dance or something, and as they were shooting they made a whole bunch of bloopers that were never meant to be in the film. So they decided to edit it all together and try and make a feature-length production out of it.

I can't think of any other explanation for why this movie implodes in on itself after thirty minutes or so.
• TragicGuineaPig
avatar
Oh, and that joke about Eva Mendez being his wife? They sooo stole that from Azumanga Daioh.

They really should do an entire movie of Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson. It wouldn't even need to be a great script - it would still be epic.

Will Ferrell is not especially funny but even this seems to be worse than his skills. The parody failed.
I think some underestimate how difficult it is to make a funny movie or a parody of buddy-cop-movies(and in general)d. Probably I couln't make one either but those who can are mostly not hired.
• Bradax24  - - I thought it was good.
I respect your opinion Joe, but I feel that I have to give the movie a bit more credit.
I personally thought it was really funny. The only good comedy I saw throughout the entire summer. Yes, it does repeat a handful of their jokes, but there are still plenty of funny moments. Ferrell's wife's mother, Sarcastic Self-Taught Lessons, the awkwardness of the Ex and her husband, etc. I'm kind of wondering if much of the negative reviewers viewed this film as a parody of action/buddy cop movies. I went into the movie with the parody concept in mind, and I came out laughing.
I am very critical when it comes to movies. I was being nice by saying Date Night was average, I don't even need to go into the butchering from the Last Airbender, and (here's an old one) the Bandidas....ugh.
But I guess this seems to be all about opinions. I encourage people to go see it if you think it will be good or to see if Joe was right. Otherwise, wait for rental to see if it was good or bad and save $8, or take Joe's advice and don't see it at all.

I heard this was good.
I would've seen it, but I'll wait for DVD.
Going to need that money for either The Expendables or Scott Pilgrim. Mostly Expendables because I can see it with my dad. We used to to watch all the classic actions movie and such. I hope it'll be like one of those times. Although, I'm worried, but I wanted to know if you were too.

I get this mad feeling that since it has such many big action stars, do you think any of the actors will try to upstage each other? Other than that, I can't wait to see it. But that is my only concern.

Either way, nice review Angry Joe. =D
• GameGuyPete
avatar
The trailers for the film really did spoil a lot of what it had to offer inside the theater. The humor was hit or miss after Sam Jackson and Dwayne Johnson exited gracefully. Honestly, I laughed more at the Jackass 3D trailer than I did during this film... and I actually laughed harder at Steve Carell's character in Dinner for Schmucks than at either Ferrell or Wahlberg's characters here.

As a few others have said, though, opinions will vary. There were a a few LOL-ments in the movie that I didn't know about, but not enough of them to balance the ones that we all knew about already.
• Squeejee
What? I was about to watch it JUST to see S L Jackson again, who is awesome. But damn, THANK YOU for saving my wallet on this one, AJ. I'll be waiting for it to show up on Netflix.

I love Joe but he makes me cringe when he says shit like.. "most stupidest" and "expecially" :eyebrow:
• thundafive  - Wrong angle
I think you might be coming at this from the wrong angle angry Joe, I mean it's a parody of all the dumb buddy cop movies, It's not spoon fed to you, like shit such as scary movie or disaster movie. A lot of the funny is thinking about how the situation would have played out in a traditional buddy cop movie.

Joe theres a diffrence between trying to save people money and ruining a movie for someone and currently you're on the wrong side of the line.

Being someone with no taste who enjoys pretty much anything (well anything except twilight) I was going to go see the movie on an off night just for something to waste an hour or 2 but theres clearly no point in doing that anymore since I'll see everything coming.

Thank you Joe, thank you for spoiling a movie because you found it to be bad and now I most likely will to because the few jokes that would of been a good laugh have been wasted. Normally a fan of you Joe but let people make up their own minds on a movie. Oh and incase anyones all "BUT THIS STUFF WAS IN THE TRAILER" I don't watch movie trailers for the same reason as I dislike this review, they ruin the material from the movie because you know its coming.
• Solid Mike
avatar
Dont watch a review for a movie before you watch the movie, they are worse than trailers when it comes to spoilers douche.

I'm not a fan of joe either -waves to joe- but only because hes basically going overboard with his reviews. all i need is a pale background and a funny hat, oh and talent. joe had to compensate with visuals and boobies tho to exist. =_=

XD XD
This guy has got to be kidding. LOL. Which part did I ruin? You haven't even seen it yet clearly. ALL of it is already ruined by the Trailer.

Go watch it then, and then come back here to apologize because ive actually specifically stayed away from ruining anything that wasn't seen in the trailer.

Which scene's did I describe in detail that you dont already know about?

@SolidMike ...Seriously? Where did I go overboard with this review? or compensate with boobs? You got a problem with me, why?
• Solid Mike
avatar
This review was not overboard.

But to be blunt and honest, the words fake and hype come to mind when i watch previous AJ reviews.

Cant force feed myself your videos anymore, sorry. it is just too fake, hyped up and egotistical. lisa cant help you there, her presence reinforces it. which is what i meant by compensation.
• AngryJoeShow

:grr:
I really have no idea what you mean by fake and hype?
Egotistical is a bit in the character of being over the top.

Sorry you dont like my stuff but im always very honest and real. :flame:

Dont like my opinion or the way I present it? Fine with me - least you watched this one, and ive got a sneak suspicion you will watch more. :drunk:
• Krystle  - Had to ask the obvious
avatar
You've seen other reviews and clearly don't like Angry Joe and hate reviewers that spoil the movie you will be going to see..... why did you even watch this video? :eyebrow:
• pap64
avatar
Guess he should be avoiding reviews as well and just go straight to the score. Which is kind of funny considering this site DOES spoil movies and games a lot for critique and analysis.

Regarding SolidMike, I think you are not his kind of reviewer. I personally don't mind it since you have this kind of energy, passion and even some hyperactivity not seen in the other reviewers (which isn't a problem at all, the beauty of this site is that you have all these people providing information and entertainment their own way).

I think that when he mentions "boobs" he is talking about Lisa Foiles. I mean she IS pretty, but she does seem to be pretty game smart, so I don't see her as just being the token eye candy gamer chick.
• AngryJoeShow
avatar
I dont think he means Lisa, she hasnt been in anything substantial yet we are working on something very good right now.

And pap64 is right, your clearly just here to talk negative and you picked out "spoiling" because in case you havent noticed here at TGWTG you can pretty much get a visual summary review of all the best and worst parts of the movie we review (cept myself since its a bit different with games and movies still in theaters) :gah:
• tiggerpete
I think Will Farrel isn't as bad as people think, I for one loved Semi-pro, and Anchorman is a classic, that said I could take or leave his other stuff, I think I'll skip this one.
• Redrally
Why couldn't this movie solely be about Samuel and Dwayne? We have too many white buddy-cop pairings, we need more black yo!
• pap64
avatar
You make a good point! When it comes to buddy cop comedies, it's either two white guys or a white guy and a black guy. Occasionally you have movies like the Rush Hour series that toss in an Asian along with a black cop, but that's a rarity.
• pap64
avatar
I personally didn't know about the movie until Angry Joe reviewed it. It seems to me that this movie is this year's "The Hangover": a movie that was a surprise hit with critics and audience, but still had it's share of haters. I haven't seen the movie yet, but in my circle of friends no one liked it, even though it was a very, very, VERY praised movie.

Regarding Angry Joe's review, I tend not to argue when it comes to comedy films simply because humor is subjective and reviews are OPINION pieces first and foremost. You CAN disagree with him and stating your opinion, but claiming that he is "wrong" in that he didn't like the movie is silly.

The same can be said about those that loved the movie. They aren't wrong either when they say they loved the movie.

So if you loved the movie, fine. If you hated the movie, that's fine too. I think everyone has the right to state their thoughts and be happy with what they thought.
• AngryJoeShow
avatar
=D
Thanks. I had to cut out a good deal here, one of it was explaining just how hard it is to "review/rate" a comedy.

I should have focused more on Will Ferrell. IF you like Will Ferrell Yelling and Acting like a Man Child you will enjoy the movie.

I didn't really rate it that harshly.
• pap64
avatar
Yeah, I've noticed that as of late Ferrell is playing the same kind of character: the big, dumb guy. I know this is a common type of character in a comedy, but it seems that no matter what type of character he is playing he always does it in the same manner: mostly clueless, ignorant and you can count on a scene where he is screaming his head off. Heck, if you include an underwear/naked scene the package is complete.

Seriously, watch a bunch of Ferrell movies in a row and you will notice it.

And you are welcome, Joe! =D
