03.05.2010 - 23:46 | Apathetic OneAww, that sucks man! .. I'm on my 5th 360 in four years...It's ok though, MS hasn't charged me for one of the replacements and always throws in a free 2 month gold XBL live card. My PS3 never crashed but I'm reading that a lot of new ones are starting to ... While sir Apathetic doesn't leave any particularly dissagreeable comments, people are getting REALLY sick of him abusing the reply option just so his comment will be seen at the top. It's a clear and pathetic desire for immediate attention, and the fact that he does it in nearly EVERY single video has made him particularly hated. It may not be against any rules of the site, but it shows a disregard for user etiquite and fully deserving of an occasional down-thumb.
So AO, if you're reading this, PLEASE knock it off. To me, what you're doing is more shameless than flaming, trolling, and shouting FIRST in commenting. Play nice and just let your comment be shown in order, an unwritten rule that we've all come to abide by as sensible members of the community.
-
03.07.2010 - 21:53 | RocketGruntKenny... so you guys are upset because he replies before everybody else? If that's the case, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard people bitch about.

03.05.2010 - 22:49 | animereviewguyyou should buy an elite, mine hasn't broken yet and it's about a year old, that's normally when an 360 is supposed to brake. It's not a bad counsel, it just over heats if you buy the piece of shit Arcade or the piece of shit Pro. Trust me Joe from gamer to another the Elite is the way to go and don't turn the Dark Side known as Playstaytion 3 .

Doesn't matter if it's an Elite, Arcade, Pro, whatever. If it's a 360, it has a likelihood of RROD. My friend got an Elite, and it Red Ringed within a month. And it just now did it again after about 8 months of working correctly. It's all a matter of chance. And PS3 ain't bad, it just doesn't have as many worth while exclusives.

03.05.2010 - 23:13 | SengSucks it happened again. Though you can fix it for good. You just need to open it up and put some new thermal compound on the GPU. A cooling fan can't hurt either. Though the ones made to go under laptops are actually better than the one made for the 360 itself.

This is exactly why I dont own a 360. How does anyone get away with charging that much for something that's almost guaranteed to fail within the first year? And why does THE tech company, Microsoft, have such an inability to fix their own shit and make an Xbox that doesn't melt down while I own 20 year old game consoles from Sega and Nintendo that still work like they're brand new?
-
03.05.2010 - 23:20 | too.dark.parkI'd really doubt any PS3s will be lasting 20 years , either. Game consoles nowadays are put under many times the stress of even the previous generation's consoles -- much more power, much more heat, much more wear on the system.

I feel your pain! I recently got the red ring of death as well and that just convinced me that getting a ps3 might be a good idea. Don't get me wrong, i like my xbox360 but i have just about every other older system ( nes, genesis, saturn etc.) and those all are running like champs for more than ten years So why can't this nextgen system barly last a year. Well God of War3 is coming out soon so that will be the perfect time to get my ps3. Hang in there bud!
-
03.05.2010 - 23:17 | too.dark.parkMS Customer support is NOT that bad. When mine RROD'd last year I called them up, talked to someone who spoke english, explained the problem and gave the SN off my box and it was done; phone call lasted about 10 min. Box came in the mail a couple days later and I packed it up and sent it off. I think the while process from phone call to getting my xbox back took all of 2 weeks, tops.

I have the unfortunate luck of currently having my 360 RRoD and my PS3 Yellow Ring of Death this month. At least Microsoft will fix the 360 for free; Sony charges $150 and they give you a crap referb system and since a PS3 that is dead cannot eject the disk I am also out of a game because I know they would not send that shit back to me.

For all the frustration and rage caused by this console it's a wonder people put up with the trouble. I was giddy as a schoolgirl when I got my 360, I had no words to describe my joy at playing video games in full HD and then the troubles began. Oddly enough my console never gave me a RROD, but it did cook my disks to the point of frying many of them; when it did work at all.
I think that as gamers and consumers we need to demand consoles that are not engineered to fail and break down. We pay through the nose for consoles and games and do not need to continue filling the coffers of their makers by buying replacements or paying for out of warranty repairs.
-
03.05.2010 - 23:38 | thismeinteil
Man, that sucks. I have a launch PS3 that's still working like a charm, so I don't know exactly how you feel, but I can sympathize. If it really is past its warranty, I would have to suggest switching to the dark side and go with a PS3. You never know with those 360's. I know it sucks not being able to play your old 360 games, but you can always trade them in for some new ones.
Actually, that is exactly what my buddy did. After one RROD and then continued disc read errors, he finally got a PS3 Slim and hasn't looked back since.
-
The thing is, it isn't just a matter of replacing one set for the other. There are exclusive games that the PS3 wouldn't play, plus having to replace the controllers.
Given the increasing reliability (That the friken thing should have had from the start) and Xbox live, it would probably just be better to stick with it.
Though maybe he should get a PS3 in addition, if he can afford it.
-
03.05.2010 - 23:42 | Don EastMy condolences, Joe. :(
-
03.05.2010 - 23:51 | Paper_BanjokamiYou know, Joe, you've really improved from when you started out on this site. I find you pretty funny, and I commend the fact that you've actually shown some improvement, and especially how much you interact with fans and make note of their suggestion.
umm, that aside. Man, sorry to hear that. My 360's still alive (for now), but my first Xbox original died on me and that sucks. I'm sure you can use your Angry Joe show influence for a discount or something. I wouldn't be surprised if some fan donates you one or something either.

Haha! All you silly peoples prancing about with your pants full of various weasels and your acronyms for things that don't need acronyms. "RROD?" Are you all that lazy not to type out "Red Ring of Death?"
Enough of the sarcastic comments. It sucks that you have to blow more money on the same console. This is exactly why we should screw all that complicated bullcrap in video games and go back to playing our Ataris and Genesises (or Mega Drives). Two things that are 20 or 30 years old or so and still work perfectly for me. Now we have fancy pants consoles that break repeatedly within the decade! :pinch:
-
03.06.2010 - 00:04 | MagmabearAw, man... I am so sorry dude... I really feel for you, even though I own a PS3 and I've never experienced the RROD. :(
I'd be willing to fight on the front lines for you if you went to war, really I would.

Unless they changed it, your warrenty is restarted every time it's fixed.
It's why I'm on my 3rd Xbox with out having to pay to get it fixed.
=)
Unless it's been so long since the last red ring that the warranty is out all the same. you can still get it fix by calling Microsoft. The problem is it coasts money to get it repaired when out of warranty.
=<
Might be cheaper then just buying a brand new Arcade.

03.06.2010 - 00:32 | Furluge
I'm still watching the video right now, but just to note here guys.. if you see the "RROD", don't panic. The rings are just an error message, they don't always mean the worst. If you've ever had the power "flicker" when the Xbox is turned on you can get this message. Just turning off the xbox and turning it back on will sometimes get rid of the error.
The original xboxes would give red rings for a wide range of error states, only a few of which were fatal system damage. But once the RROD reputation got started people would send them back without consulting, or trying things like cycling the power, and Microsoft got back tons of working Xboxes for repair. Since then later versions have replaced Red rings with flashing green rings to avoid this reputation.
Not saying it doesn't happen, just.. do not panic...
Besides.. everyone knows you don't /really/ start to panic until your equipment beeps at you during startup. ;p
Addnedum: Just saw the video. That sucks Joe. :(

So why can't this nextgen system barly last a year?
They can, they're called Wii's
Well PS3 also live way longer. I have mine now for 2 years and it still works flawless.
The 360 overall, I really don't know what MS did there.
People with not many games would not have a big problem to switch to the PS3, but those with many 360 games really need to buy a new 360, wich also may break after a while.
-
03.06.2010 - 14:18 | too.dark.parkYeah, if you want to play... nothing. And no, that's not just a random smear against the Wii but there really isn't much on it worth playing compared to other systems.
Personally I still prefer my PC over any bloody console, so :P

I agree with your state of mind, because the Wii has SO many garbage throwaway titles it makes me nauseous. However, don't forget about SSBB, No More Heroes 1 and 2, Resident Evil Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles, Mad World, and the Virtual Console.
And yes, I know that aside from Virtual Console, that's still less than ten games, which shows how pathetic the Wii's library of good games is, but hey, those games are worth it.
(I know that Metroid Prime 3 is amazing, and that there are other Wii games that are more than worth it, but sorry; I simply happened to have not played them - nothing against those games).
My buddy is on his SIXTH xbox. That aint right.
Still, Im not gunna fanboy this (my momma raised me right.) Just hope the replacement is the last one youll ever need.
