It's Beatles Covers Review Episode 8, and it's an April Fools Special! Don't worry, it's not a prank, but I am doing something different. This time I'm reviewing a cover of Eleanor Rigby that I myself recorded. The second part of Season 1 of BCR will return in late-June/early-July.

(Article can be seen here)

Today I’m going to review the new Paul McCartney album, Kisses on the Bottom (I’ll explain later), which was released today (this review was written on 7th February).

The album is McCartney’s 15th studio solo album. The idea behind the album was for McCartney to revisit songs from his youth. The album is mainly covers of old jazz songs, McCartney only contributing vocals for most songs, enlisting the help of Diana Krall and jazz producer Tommy LiPuma. The album was published by McCartney’s own company, MPL.

The Beatles. The Fab Four. The greatest band of all time. No other group has had and sustained the level of popularity and success they've had. With over 200 songs, it was hard to narrow down (besides a few obvious ones).

Welcome back for the final part of this miniseries looking at Beatles landmarks in the city of Liverpool, The Beatles home town. In this part we’re going to look at modern landmarks and the way in which the city has paid homage to its most famous sons.

The first landmark we’ll look at is The Cavern Club. The city centre venue that was home to some of The Beatles early gigs, both before and after the residential in Hamburg.  The basement venue was also host to a variety of big name acts prior to hitting the big time, including The Kinks, The Who, The Rolling Stones & John Lee Hooker. Sadly the original was closed and filled in to allow the construction of an underground railway line. The new Cavern opened in 1984, occupying half the space of the original and designed to mimic the original as closely as possible.

Despite being a major tourist destination, it still operates as a club and still plays host to live music. Paul McCartney himself returned to the cavern to play the last gig of the millennium in 1999. There is also a statue of John Lennon outside the cavern as well as the wall of fame, a wall with engraved bricks featuring each artist to have played the cavern. (Jonathan King and Gary Glitter’s bricks were both removed following a petition)

Welcome to part 2 of G.B. Talks About... Beatles landmarks in Liverpool. This week we’re looking at landmarks that inspired two of The Beatles most famous songs. The songs in question were both from The Magical Mystery Tour album so before we go into the main subject matter I’d like to mention the Magical Mystery Tour bus featured on the album cover and in the promo video to I am the Walrus. The bus is in service in Liverpool and is used for tours of many of the landmarks I’ve mentioned in this series. The Magical Mystery Tour operates every day in Liverpool (save for Christmas Eve, Christmas day & New Year’s Day).

Damnit, cant think of a decent witty opening. Erm, hi there everybody! Im G.B. and im trying something new by sharing my writing with a community like the one here at thatguywiththeglasses. My writing up until this point has only been accessable by my circle of friends and family or by my teachers, but im starting to enjoy casual writing as a hobby and thought i'd take a bold step in sharing with the public. What am I going to write about? Anthing and everything will probably be the most appropriate answer to this. I dont have a specialist subject that I want to focus on because in all honesty, If I do choose a specialist subject to write about i'll end up losing interest after a while.

Now you're probably thinking to yourselves, wow this is a pointlessly long winded intro. You're probably also thinking, well why do that here? Fair question, and one I shall answer before I get too deep into this. I, like the rest of you, am a big fan of this site. TGWTG is home to some amazing, talented people who never fail to entertain and yet in some cases inform me at the same time. One of the commonly overlooked factors of TGWTG however is the community. Be it those who leave comments on videos, those who post on the forums or those who actually contribute to the site in some other way, shape or form. Its rare that a community exists that can be so loyal to contributors they enjoy, yet also be able to give honest, constructive criticism on their work. This has allowed those who do contribute to continually improve their craft and produce the best possible material.

I hope to acheive similar results here. Now dont get me wrong, im not big headed enough to try and say that im going to get a fanbase based on this blog. All im trying to suggest is that I have some things that i'd like to write about and that i'd like to share. If you the reader likes it then great, but if you have any suggestions that could improve this blog or my writing style in general then I am more than happy to take them into consideration. Now aside from introducing myself and explaining why I choose to write on TGWTG, I do have something to talk about so i'll stop the intro now and get down to business.

I am from Liverpool, England. The city thats home to such landmarks as the superlambanana
