House of Love - Terminator 2
Hey folks, it's Saturday, and you know what that means!
And that's yer lot! See ya in Seven!
Hey folks, it's Saturday, and you know what that means!
And that's yer lot! See ya in Seven!
Centuries before the events of the first two Underworld films, lycan (werewolf) Lucian (Michael Sheen) was in love with Sonja (Rhona Mitra), the daughter of the ruler of the vampires, Viktor (Bill Nighy). Their unity brought with it the rise of the enslaved lycans, leading to the war that we've all become well acquainted with in the present story.
Going back and telling this story is a little confusing to me. From a marketing standpoint, I find it odd that they would make an Underworld film without Kate Beckinsale. From a storytelling perspective, I don't see the point in it existing at all. We already saw this story in flashbacks and it was impactful at the time. Drawing it out and telling every little detail gets kind of boring as it goes on. It takes a lot of emotion out of a story like this when we already know exactly how it ends. It's also a pretty generic story they went with, hitting beat-for-beat everything you're expecting.
That being said, the emotion does work when you think of the film as its own thing. It's a tragic love story in somewhat of the vain of Romeo and Juliet, only it's with vampires and werewolves and that makes it so much more awesome. The chemistry between Lucian and Sonja works, but the chemistry between the two of them and Viktor is even better. I love seeing Nighy get a bigger role in one of these films because he seems to love making them. Viktor is way over the top in the best way possible, yelling and screaming and being a generally fierce antagonist. If you loved him in the first movie like I did then you'll really love seeing him throughout this whole film.
I wish I could say the action was as good as in the first two films. While it is, from a gore perspective, it's all shot way too close and it's hard to tell what's going on half the time. There's even a fight near the end of the film that takes place during a lightning storm and the flashing lights mixed with the close up shots make it pretty much impossible to see anything. They also use some effects more than once and that sort of cheapens them a bit. It's all still on a much lower budget than it wants to be but it does an okay job making up for it. They just could have done a better job staging everything and getting the camera in the right place.
...Hey folks, It's Saturday, and you know what that means!
And as an extra bonus, Here's the SD Director's cut of the Season Opener, featuring both parts combined!
And That's yer lot for this week!

Hello and welcome to the review, what is there to say about the game of the year of 2006? One simple thing, simply awesome and amazing, game play, graphics, storyline, everything about it was high quality and done well. What game is this, well of course it is Gears of War, a military third person shooter based on a fictitious world fighting, what else, an alien race. So let us dig into the 5th best selling Xbox game to date.
Though it was high selling I did not have an Xbox360 when it came out so I never got to play this game when it came out, and when I finally did get my own 360 the gears hype had died out since gears 2 was already released and had faded from public eye. At that time Assassin’s creed had taken the limelight, but when a friend of mine had heard that I had not played it, he quickly got out the game and we played through it.
...Half-naked high school girls battle zombie hordes with AK-47s and katanas on the streets of Tokyo . . . Now, if you haven’t passed out from a MASSIVE nosebleed, here’s High School of the Dead, on Anime For Dummies!
Hey folks, Saturday rolls around again!

Today on Gaming with Killatia we take a look at hit rpg for the Gamecube Tales of Symphonia. Now Granted its not often that we talk about role playing games on this review show but I enjoyed Symphonia so much that I wanted to play it once to see if I still enjoy it. The answer? Watch to find out

Dobbs (Humphrey Bogart), Howard (Walter Huston) and Curtin (Tim Holt) are three down-and-out men looking for a profit when they decide to go looking for gold. The three of them set out into the mountains of Mexico to find their fortunes, but along the way they have to deal with bandits, tag-alongs, wild beasts and worst of all: Their own greed.
I don't believe I've actually seen a whole lot of Humphrey Bogart films in my time but this is certainly a change of pace from something like Casablanca. Dobbs is a corrupt, weak, devious man who is most easily tempted by the harsh wilderness and high stakes at hand while panning for gold. He gives a performance that I would call "outstanding" if he wasn't up against two actors who I'd give the same label to. Huston sadly passed only a short while after making this film, but it was a great mark to be made so late in his life. And Holt is great as the much more level headed of the two younger miners. I thought it was great watching Dobbs and Curtin go at each other, with Dobbs constantly worrying about his share of the loot and Curtin being more sensible and trusting of the others. Meanwhile Howard is just an old man out for some fun, not caring if he gets even an ounce of gold in the end.
It's interesting getting into the minds of three very different people and how they handle their situation. At first I was wondering if it would just end up with all three of the characters fighting over their shares, with a message about how greed is bad. But the message is more about how greed can take ahold of somebody and push them to limits that others would never dare to go. Dodd starts to really break down as the story goes along, and it's nice to see Curtin along with him contrasting this rather than giving in to it himself. Add to this some rather intense moments with the bandits and some decent gunplay and you have a pretty solid flick.
The Treasure of the Sierre Madre is easily one of the best movies I have ever seen. It's a must for just about anyone, although I can't imagine any woman I know sitting through it. It's worth a watch if only for Bogart's performance, or to finally hear how that "We don't need no stinking badges" line actually plays out in the movie. The payoff for that line is so much better than I was expecting.
...Hey folks, check your calendars, and stand by yer blip-players!
And now, a week to catch your breath, and I'll see you all back here in mid-February!
Knight of Five Reviews 33
Well here we are, after a long wait and a few demands, we have finally arrived at the review that I have promised for such a long time; all the way back to review number 3, Startropics for the NES. What a journey it has been trying to get this review done. So how about we just get down to the nit and gritty, Hello and welcome to the review, and let us dig into Startropics.
My sister handed me the NES cartridge about a year or two ago and asked me to review it, back then I really did not give it the fair chance that it really deserved and kind of blew it off. That is until here after the last review I buckled down and played it, and to my surprise it is the type of game that I enjoy, from the very first dungeon it is out to get you. This game was produced in 1990 by the Coca-cola company, actually it was produced by Nintendo, and the same development team that made the Punch out game series; but they must have really enjoyed cola soda do to the fact that this game has the annoying trait of naming places and things words that ended in cola, Shecola Castle, Americola, Chief Coralcola, etc.
...Before today's Episode, a small straw poll: Which Jennifer Connely do you prefer?
A) Teen Jen, as seen in Labyrinth (Mmm, Teenage youthful face...)
B) Adult Jen, as seen in Ang Lee's Hulk (Mmm, Smouldering mama...)
Just an unscientific poll, leave a comment if you have a preference. Anyway, on with the Show!
As a quasi follow-up to my previous lists based on oddity in video games (Enemy attacks and customs/tendencies), this time, we are looking at game elements that have real world applications yet have dissimilar effects in video games. Whether it is deliberate developer design or just whimsy on the programmer's part, I'm sure we can all agree that these following objects don't do quite what they should!
Using well-known power-ups that just have odd or unrealistic effects (SMB Mushrooms/Mega Man 2's Metal Blade) but are limited to video games would make the list too long and probably not very interesting. For example, you can't say that PacMan's power pellets are odd because you can't chew animal food pellets and have a similar effect in real life, but no one would expect them to. (Don't forget alcohol in a myriad of games; sorry college freshman...)
As always, this is my list and only includes games that I've played. If you have a suggestion, make a comment below or consider making your own list on the topic.
{"video":"http://blip.tv/ugly-bob/top-ten-contradictive-or-misleading-items-and-abilities-in-video-games-5889172","width":"400","height":"300"}
And I'm back, with Part 2!
Let's see what looks interesting.
Description of the anime below, and also don't forgot to share with your friends. ^,,,,,^
Busou Chuugakusei Basketarmy: The story is set in August of 2026 at the Fuji Training Facility. Tōko Natori (voiced by Ami Koshimizu) is a third-year middle school student in the Eastern Defense Academy — Japan's first private organization to be established under the National Defense Education Law two years earlier.
Tōko is entrenched in field training with instructor Kamiya. It has been a harsh training regiment, but it is finally the last day. Kamiya proposes a "extracurricular class" under the name "Newest Weapons Research." But then, an incident occurs that turns the training facility into a sea of blood.
Another: Spring, 1998. Recently transferred to Yomiyama Kita Middle School, Kouichi Sakakibara (15) gets the feeling something isn't quite right with his class, who all seem to be afraid of something. He finds himself attracted to the strange yet beautiful Mei Misaki, but his efforts to get closer only confound things further. Then there is a horrible accident... What on earth is happening in this place?
Senhime Zesshou Symphogear: Created by video game producer Akifumi Kaneko and Elements Garden composer Noriyasu Agematsu, this new series follows two girls in a musical group named Zweiwing. Together, they must protect Earth against a threat known as "Noise" by donning weapons called Symphogear.
Recorder to Randoseru: Recorder to Randoseru follows two unique siblings— Atsushi Miyagawa, an 11 year-old boy with the height and looks of an adult, and his elder sister Atsumi, a 17 year-old with the short frame of a child. Even though Atsumi looks like a grade schooler, she needs to look after her brother, who despite his tall physique, still acts his age. The anime is based on Meme Higashiya's four-panel manga.
Kill me Baby: Sonya is an assassin, but in between all her missions, she still has to go to school like every other kid. She's joined by her fearless, but air-headed friend Yasuna, and a girl name Agiri, a ninja from her organization. The manga is based on the four-panel manga series of the same name, which ran in Manga Time Kirara Carat.
Kyousogiga: Three kids are stuck in a strange city causing massive mayhem through the land. They are searching for an atypical rabbit in order to return home. Koto, the eldest of the three, seems to have some sort of connection to this weird place ruled by a monk, a demon, and a priest.
Happy 2012! I'm back with the back 8! Season 1 closes up in just 8 episodes!
See ya in Seven!
So yeah, I decided to talk about 1992 after all. 1992 is a year you should familiarize yourself with when it comes to gaming. Sure, there were a lot of cool things going on in the console world, but the PC gaming market was especially interesting. I already briefly went over Terminator 2029 and Gun Buster, so let's go over what ELSE came out this year.
Ultima Underworld
...While it is going to be fairly obvious who takes home the gold this year, this was the first year to actually have a lot of FPS titles, many of which are...well, at least passable. Okay, no, there wasn't anything mindblowing this year, but it was still a decent year, all things considered. With that said, let's hop right into it!
Blake Stone - Aliens of Gold
Blake Stone's not a bad game, actually. It's got some fairly interesting concepts to it and it's made by Apogee, who did plenty of oldschool PC action games, including the older Duke Nukem titles. Great game? No, but still pretty fun.
...This one's going to be a little different and here's why. So once again, I thought I would start in 1990. I mean, that seems to be a pretty good year to start with and it worked with everything else, so why not? I'LL TELL YOU WHY NOT. Wolfenstein 3D wasn't even released until 1992. BUT that's not to say there weren't FPSs before then. So let's briefly go over...those that came before. Also, I have videos prepared for each entry, but it does take a while for that amount of content to load, so instead click on the pictures to see the videos.

Me and Nootrac (my drawing from when I was 7 years old come to life) talk about animated films and TV shows, and give two separate opinions; one of someone thinking as a somewhat cynical adult, and one in the mindset of a child. I hope you enjoy it!
Sometimes the final foe can make or break an otherwise good game. These are some examples of when the final boss definitely is NOT fun to fight. Why developers do this is anyone's guess, but I'm sure we can all agree that these fights SUCK!
In video games, we've all encountered puzzles that we couldn't wait to get through. But how often do you think back on how little sense some of those frustrating moments make? This list isn't necessarily about the difficulty of these snares, but often how inane they are in the game's universe!
Hey folks, It's Saturday, and you know what that means!
Now I'm not here next week, as I'm going to a Gathering in Gothenburg, but I'll see you in 2 weeks for the next ep. Don't miss it!
As a followup to my previous list, here we are taking a look at the moments when it is THE PLAYER that has all the advantage, be it through abusable strategies or overpowered moves. For the most part, we are avoiding using unlockable super weapons or abilities and combinations you get from grinding for hours, as making the game much easier is kind of their point. Enjoy!
As always, I'm sure there are powerful weapons in games like Portal or Halo and others I haven't played, so no complaints that your favorites aren't on the list. Can't mention it if I haven't played it!
Hey folks, No time for Small talk, it's Saturday, and you know what that means!
And before I go today, I'd just like to mention that I've had to replace my PSU this week. Sixty flippin' quid! But on the bright side, I may yet decide to do something with this storyline...
See you next week for something decidedly... Green...
Hey folks, It's Saturday, and you know what that means!
And that's it for today!
Hey folks, I'm back! I'll have a brand-spanking new episode for your delectations next week, but to tide you over... I've gone and blathered over my Galaxy Quest episode. Oh well, Enjoy!
And be here next week for: The Road to El Dorado, a Forgotten Trad-animated classic from Dreamworks. Don't Miss it!
Hey folks! it's Saturday, and you know what that means!
Now, I'll be taking a couple of weeks off to prepare my next 8 episodes and be in a community theatre show, but I'll be back very soon with More fun and frolics!
Keep watching the Skis!
And I'm back, with a look at Ferngully.
And next week, we move out of the realm of movies for a while...
Hey folks, It's Saturday, and you know what that means!

1) I know the Nostalgia Chick did Tron last week. I'm going to have a serious talk with her later.

This is actually a surprisingly good year and what a year to end on. No, there weren't that many titles, but what was released was pretty damn good. This was not an easy year to pick a #1 as a result.
This was an incredibly slow year for brawlers. Unless my info's wrong (and you can blame Wiki for that if it is), there were literally only 3 brawlers this year. Worse still, I had no prior knowledge of these titles going into this and, well...they're not that great.
There weren't that many brawlers this year, but trust me...if you recognize at least half the games in the runner ups list, you'll know immediately this was a hard year to call a #1.
