I'd like to ask you guys a question, when it comes to gaming, do you prefer the console?

I know that doesn't seem related to the topic at hand, but I will get to that. I grew up a console gamer, and I have been ever since. In fact I own practically every "Good" system in existance. And some time ago, I tried out emulating a few games, and I didn't like it that much.

Mostly because I am a bit OCD, and I need a controller for when you play any sort of old school game from the Nes, or SNES. Either that or some of them just wouldn't work. Luckily I found a 3in1 system online that plays:SNES, NES, and Sega games. Pretty sweet.

But do you guys prefer emulating games, or do you prefer the real thing like me? Just curious. Thank you.

In today's exciting adventure, I did a custom case for a Nintendo. In my design, I wanted to mirror a classic Famicom in all of it's two-toned glory. However, I wanted to do something original and unique. So, here it is!

Truth be told, this took a lot longer than I wish. I've been working some incredibly long hours lately, so I have not had the time to work on my projects. I'm still extremely happy that things turned out the way they did. The paint dried exceptionally well. For the most part, it all went together pretty easily, with the actual painting taking the most time. I'd estimate at least a good 5 hours of just...spraying, sanding, coating, and buffing the finish until everything looked even. I'm quite the perfectionist when it comes to things like this, so getting it just right is pretty much a losing battle. No matter where I looked, I would always find a little ding here or a tiny scratch there...it is a 30-year-old piece of technology after all, and it's been used well over those three decades.

I think most gamers have at least one Zelda game that holds a special place in their memories. The original is mine. Warning: contains extremely high levels of nostalgia.

Also, while this isn't the first video I've made, it is my first blog post on TGWTG. :) I hope you enjoy it.

This video is older, but it's also one of my gaming related subjects. It's a tutorial on replacing the batteries in your NES cartridges. Truth be told, I had wanted to play The Legend of Zelda for the longest time, and I've never actually played through the first game entirely even though I've owned it for twenty years. I decided to take it off of the shelf and play, but I soon discovered that it wasn't saving my game state anymore, so I'd either have to play through in one sitting or fix the cartridge. Since I am who I am, I opted for plan 'B' and documented my journey!

WOW, I didn't even think I could drop the ball this badly. How did I miss not one, not two, BUT THREE WEEKS IN A ROW? This is especially bad considering that this would be my last update. Anyways, to wrap up my catching up, here are the last episode, up until the one uploaded this past Saturday. Starting this weekend, I'll be uploading the episodes on this blog as they come out, with both text and audio format on this site. Hope you'll follow along!

These episodes would have played from August 27th 2011 to... Well today I guess.

For those of you who just stumbled on this, disregard the first time, I forget nothing.

Anyways, it seems this is my second to last Wednesday update, as next week, I'll be all caught up! Seriously, these episodes are just like two months ago.

These episodes would have played from July 2nd to August 20th 2011.

Hey there members of TGWTG who happened to stumble across this blog, this is my series of video game review podcasts. If you haven't read my previous blogs, then I suggest you check them out for the other 14 episodes. Here's the next 7 (listen to one a day until next week, or all at once if you like, just giving you that option).

At this point in the reviews I knew more what I wanted my show to be like, but wasn't quite in the groove of making it each week, so they're pretty hit or miss as far as I'm concerned. Quite frankly, a lot of this selection is pretty good, especially since a few coincide with specific events, so I can tell I was improving. Originally these shows were produced between May 15th 2010 and June 27th 2010.

Hey there members of TGWTG who happened to stumble across this blog, this is my series of video game review podcasts. If you haven't seen my first blog, than check it out, the first 7 episodes are there. As usual, here are 7 more episodes, and the next 7 should come next Wednesday.

At this point in the reviews, I went to my radio teacher for a bit of advice. He suggested the sound effects, a regular time limit and adding a score system. He's also the one that said I should put it online as a podcast. So, this is the point where I started taking it more seriously and working harder on it. Originally, these shows were produced between November 21st 2009 and January 16th 2010.

Hello there members of TGWTG. I have been a member of this site for a few months now and joined with the goal of sharing my podcast reviews with you. I've been doing these for over a year and a half now, and figured this would be a good way to get them out there and share them in a community where I can get some feed back and opinions. And then... I got lazy and didn't post them up. Which, is why I am here today. Starting today, I will post up 7 of my reviews (in chronological order, starting with the first) each Wednesday. You can listen to them all at once, or one a day. Once I catch up (which will be in like 11-13 weeks?) I'll post them regularly as I update them.

Here's the first 7 episodes. At this point, they were exclusively playing on my college's student radio station, so there are some in jokes. I also just went with a concept and didn't get much feedback, so things aren't quite their best and it would change a lot.

Remember, constructive criticism over insults (and I do always like hearing different opinions on video games).

I apologize, guys. I'm feeling deathly ill, so this will have to do for an update today.  This time around I'm only going to highlight one game per year.  While that may not seem very inclusive the fact is there are some years where there aren't any officially licensed brawlers at all.  Furthermore, the definition of a brawler has become somewhat vague, so as it stands, here's my running definition, subject to change at any time...

So Night Four happened. Between nights 3 and 4, people on the board I originally made these for started telling me my devil-may-care playing style, charging constantly forward with nary a hint of grinding or even thoroughly looting dungeons would lead to my utter demise.

And yet, I could not hear them over the sound of all this CHARGING CONSTANLY FORWARD. Sorry about the musical number, though. Have to admit the timing was good.

So while I was waiting for votes to come in on the Let's Drink Final Fantasy series, I still wanted to get a new video out. Football season was close to starting when I recorded this, so I went with Tecmo Super Bowl, the greatest football video game ever created. And what an epic battle it turned out to be!

Let's Drink Final Fantasy! Night Three

The third night of play sends me back into the Marsh Cave for the CROWN, and then on to battle with Astos, King of the Dark Elves. He's the ONLY dark elf in the game, but still a king. Sure, why not? Unfortunately, Astos is something of a bastard.

Since this episode is from my backlog, please note that the "call for votes" at the end is no longer current. I've progressed beyond this point - chime in if you want, but it won't change history. I presume. If you have a time machine, all bets are off.

So, Night Two is something of an adventure. As you'll see in the video, there were some pretty substantial issues with my original attempt to record it, namely that my capture software ate the whole thing. Thus I was forced to redo the first session in order to pick up from there again. I'm pretty sure I explain any inconsistencies that result from this. All that being said, this was the shortest episode because I was trying to determine the limits of the software.

Also (since I didn't actually mention this before), I'm posting these videos from my backlog, as several more have gone up at my main blog, but so as not to dump them all at once, I'm going to put one up each day or two until I've caught up.

Part 1 of my series of critical analysis essays on the Metroid franchise, Samus Aran as a character, and what it all means to me. Brief introductions and a prologue to the journey ahead are proffered.

Edit: There was a strange error the first time I posted this that wiped the text from the entry and replaced it with a tag cloud. That should be fixed with this re-post. As far as I know the other entries have not been affected.

Hi everybody. After 20 years of dying at the hands of TMNT (NES) I finally conquered the mountain yesterday. I beat the game. I started a Let's Play a couple weeks ago with no real thought that I'd be trying to beat it. Somehow after a bunch of game overs and restarts I make it inside the Technodrome and to Shredder. Here's how it all went down.

Recalling how I first discovered the Metroid series as a kid, I reflect on why the classic trilogy and their gameplay innovations appealed to me so strongly and why Samus Aran's character resonated with me in particular.
