Hello everybody Lyrical Cow here for another edition of my sporadically updated blog. I just got surgery this week, so with loads of free time, painkillers, and nowhere to go, I plan to get a few reviews posted.
Today I'm going to take a look at the Pandigital Novel, a deceptively powerful little ereader, and Seneca gingerbread apple chips.
The Pandigital novel is a 7 inch full-color ereader that sports a very responsive resistive touchscreen, 1 GB internal memory on micro-SD card expandable up to 32 GB via an external SD slot, and an 800 MHz processor.
Straight out of the box is a very good and very useful reading device. It will take a while for this device to boot up. Once it does the default layout (as can be seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKQbOBUP18A) consist of a double bookshelf system, where the top shelf is a link to the Barnes & Noble bookstore, and the bottom shelf is a link to your recently read items, and your collection. Beneath that in the app tray there is an icon for a very good calendar/daily planner, web browser, games, updates, stock quotes, e-mail, etc.
The web browser is your standard bare-bones mobile browser, which is to say serviceable. E-mail works without a hitch, and the calendar is one of the best I have used outside of Outlook. The e-book reader application built into the device is a very good one. It will read both EPUB and PDF files. The reader will also allow you to highlight and annotate any e-book you wish. This makes it especially useful as a research tool. For example I can download a case from Westlaw highlight the parts I want to use, make a quick note about where you need to use it, and then later printed off my PC, all without having to lug a heavy laptop around.
