What to say about Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik? The guy's story has so many twists, turns, mixes of canon/non-canon stuff, family ties and deaths and revivals, I can't even understand it, let alone explain it. Let's just say he's one of my favorite villains ever.

Why? He's either hilarious in his ineptitude or amazing in his badassness, that's why! His debut was together with Sonic. They needed a villain that would be the opposite to Sonic, someone who portrayed technology and development, in opposition to Sonic, who represents nature. Blue nature. Traveling fast.

Also, did you know his design is based on a caricature of Teddy Roosevelt with an egg-shaped body? I swear this is not a joke.

In the first Sonic games, he proved himself a balls-y villain when he declared "Screw other big bads, I have the guts to fight my foe mano-a-mano in the end of every stage, at the sound of a catchy tune!" And so he did.

"Papa pa papa pa parara pa para, papa pa papa pa parararara pa! Papa pa papa pa..."

However, this bold decision doomed him to a Villain Decay. This showed pretty well in The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog TV show, where he is basically Wile E. Coyote WITH ROBOTS! IN MOBIUS! and Sonic is the Roadrunner WITH A SIDEKICK! THAT FLIES! With an infamously good voice acting by the deceased singer Long John Baldry, he soon became a fan Da Pro favorite. Actually, I got the Portuguese dub. It was almost identical to the English one, so it counts. DO NOT QUESTION.

Yeah, this version of Robotnik became very popular lately.

While this was airing, Robotnik also starred  in Sonic SatAM. He was creepy awesome.

Usually, at least.

And then there was Sonic Underground, and X, and all that stuff I didn't watch. I have a love-hate relationship with this new Dr. Robotnik look. They made it way more faithful to the original design than the previous cartoon incarnations, by giving him his goggles back and fixing his mustache, but... yeah, forget it, as much as I love AOSTH and Sonic SatAM's Robotnik, I have to say the closer to the original design the better.

Oh, I almost forgot. His goal usually swings between taking over Mobius...

Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. You're sometimes silly, sometimes evil, sometimes a complete monster. You had your share of lousiness, too. But we still adore you. We also adore these bad guys: THE INDEX.
