Superman: The Ultimate Superhero

Darth Revan

Whenever I bring this up there's always someone who feels they can beat this superhero with some bull whatever.  I'm talking about Superman.  With talk of The NC reviewing Superman 64, a really bad guy, it should not be forgotten that the superhero itself has got to be the ultimate and most powerful superhero ever concieved by a human mind.  For anyone who isn't familiar with his powers let me just review quickly:

1. he can fly

2. he can fly/run faster than bullets, and pretty much do anything he wants when he's in this high speed mode

3. Heat vision

4. X-Ray vision

5. Super Hearing- he can hear anything around the world

6. Ice breath

7. Lungs that can hold huge amounts of air, then blow it back. uh what's that called? O.o Super breath?

8. Invunerable to anything but kryptonite. Now by that I mean nothing can penetrate his body but when exposed to kryptonite then he turns weak and can get hurt easily.

He can also re-power himself from the sun.

Now who can beat this guy? NO ONE THAT'S WHO. People have been giving the impression that someone could beat him, but that's just because the guys who make up the comics and such have to make him stupid when using his powers so he's not totally powerful all the time.  Kryptonite shouldn't even be that much of a problem either as long as he can keep his distance, using his super speed, and using his heat vision to destroy them.  Anyone want to challenge this guy? Give out your superhero, or supervillian and match against this guy. Try anything you want.

spawn? lol what's so special about that guy, a little super speed, boom, a little heat vision, bam, then if that's not enough superman can always drag spawn to space and throw him to the sun. oh and i'm not getting into detail with the different types of kryptonite, but what powers i forgot? i probably did i need to ask though smilies/tongue.gif

he has heightened senses that bring powers like telescopic vision.

As for weaknesses, he's sensitive to magic and being away from the sun. Anyone who knows a good spell can take out Superman with ease. Well, maybe not ease.

When comes to total amount of powers, it depends which superman we're talking about. Pre-Crisis or Post-Crisis? Pre-Crisis Supes even used SUPER-VENTRILICRY. But anyway the vulnerabilities to kryptonite, magic, and red sun radiation hold true to both versions. Probably the only characters who could stand blow for blow with Superman would be Shazam/Captain Marvel, The Incredible Hulk, The Mighty Thor, Wonder Woman, or Darkseid. That's four who are either gods themselves or derive their powers from gods and one green monster in purple pants. They would be great fights, but Superman would still win. Why? Perhaps his greatest super-power comes from his super-heart. That and because many have made the mistake of tugging on his cape.

Ive had this debate before and there is one guy i believe can take superman one on one.

The Gladiator, leader of the imperial guard of the shi'ar empire

He's basically superman, super speed, super strength, heat vision etc and even has a similar weakness (an unknown form of radiation) What with it being unknown, no-one can use it against him.

But the things gladiator can do, out weigh what superman is capable of. Gladiator can fly unharmed through the center of a sun and survive a super nova. He is so strong that he can move planets out of orbit. And he doesn't so much as flinch at a punch from the juggernaut (which is measured as over 100 tones worth of force)

The only thing i can see going against him, is that his power is supposedly directly connected to his level of confidence. If he thinks he can beat you, then he will. But if he doubts himself for even a second then you at least stand a chance.

What i find funny is, superman is often defeated by mere mortals. His nemesis; Lex Luthor has had the upper hand on him too many times to count.

I think most fans will agree, that despite him being a true hero (chivalrus, noble blah blah blah) It is this, and his trust in people that is his greatest stregnth, but also his greatest weakness. It is implied more than once in the smallville series, that clark kent will allow villains to live even at the risk of them hurting other people. Why? Becuase he wont kill. That's fine, but when it comes down to it, who wouldn't kill one man if it meant saving a thousand people? In clarks case, he refused to kill lex luthor when Zod claimed his physical form, which he was warned would end in the destruction of all man kind. All i can say here is, Clark is a lucky fuck! I don't want the future of our race in HIS hands! He risked our race because of "waaaah i don't want to hurt someone"

damn you got some really good points with that gladiator guy. although flying through the sun would probably over power superman to an unknown point of raw power since he does get his strength from the sun. and we already know he can fly through fire without getting hurt from the recent superman movie. surviving a supernova....i'm sure would get blasted away from that huge blast but all we has to do is fly towards the sun and recharge. moving planets, ya that's cool but i'm pretty sure superman can do that too, it's just that there was no need, unless of course he got a chance to travel back in time to save krypton, which kinda happened in smallville but he still couldn't fly yet damn it so ya. he did after all spin the earth backwards to go back in time didn't he...that's basically moving a planet smilies/tongue.gif the whole not flinching thing, you got me there, superman would more than likely flinch and not just flinch...he'd probably get smacked all the way back to his own galaxy smilies/grin.gif but he wouldn't die from it as long as he's still powered by the sun. getting defeated by mortals is just a way for the creators to dumb him down because he can easily kill them, but of course there's the whole "waaa me no wanna kill" thing. so that's it, i am also a huge fan of superman and the smallville series but if i had those powers....damn....possibilities.

*SPOILER ALERT FOR SMALLVILLE NEW SEASON*

I've never really watched Smallville, though I did enjoy Superman: The Animated Series and Lois and Clark was okay.

Ah yes, i guess superman can technically move a planet with his 'Go back in time' trick lol. In the superman returns film near the end, he must lift hundreds of thousands of tons when throwing that island into space.... Juggernaut is measured at just 100 tons so superman probabley not intimidated by juggy. There's really no way to tell what would happen to superman if he got too close to the sun... It'd be interesting to put it to the test >smilies/cheesy.gif But remember, it's only the 'Yellow sun' which charges his abilities

Wow, doomsday is something to look forward to in smallville! But what season is this? We're just getting season 7 in England but i know details concerning season 8 are slowly being clarified

^ again that's because those story tellers HAVE to make him beatable, otherwise what's the point?

- ya i've always meant the yellow sun but i was just assuming that when i was typing "the sun".

- just getting into season 7? so you're JUST getting to know Kara? ugh you got to wait until THAT season is over before getting to see that guy. but don't worry, season 7 is one of the better seasons.

I havn't been too impressed with season 7 but we're like 7-8 episodes into it and it is getting better. We just had the episode with Lara and Zor-el which was a huge step up from some of the earlier eps of this season.

I don't know why the writers decided they had to kill superman. Sure the battle with doomsday was epic but after having died, superman doesn't have the same awe factor. And i havn't read what came after but from what ive seen of him being reborn or whatever, it didn't look very good
