Is it just me, or does it feel more and more like the site has become less ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com and more like ThoseGuysWhoEnjoyRanting.com?

Just curious...

Can you expand a little on what you mean?

No one says you have to click on the contributions made by me or the other guest contributors. And besides, there is still plenty ThatGuy action. You get videos made by ThatGuy 5 times a week. How often do the guests contribute? Once or twice, maybe.

Thatguy is already on a schedule he can't always keep to. It's nice that those running the site have scowered and found people who have a similar style to Thatguy but cover topics he normally wouldn't. They're simply trying to hold you over.

I don't get it...

That's funny, cause Doug's contribution is as high as it's ever been. Right now we're at 1 NC, 1 Bum Review, and 2 Ask That Guys a week, normally with a BIG sketch running every other week. This not even counting the Angry Video Game Nerd debacle (which has included numerous videos, a game review, and a 24 hour plus drive to New Jersey). So not only has the amount of actual That Guy content NOT GONE DOWN AT ALL in the past few weeks, but this THREE TIMES the amount of That Guy releases that you had when the site launched.

Second, if you're under the impression that this was a) always going to be a That Guy ONLY site, or b) ever was in the first place, then our apologies. Doug is not the end all here. Nearly everything here has been done by committee. The site is physically handled almost exclusively by Mike, with SOME input from Doug and myself. The videos include a lot of help from our producer/editor/actor/SFX guy Bhargov. A large number of Doug's vids have been cowritten by myself or Bhargov. A lot of classic NC quotes or scenes I see referenced on the Comments pages aren't really his, but ours. In fact, odds are, if it's a Nostalgia Critic, at least three (perhaps four) people have had a hand in making it over the course of production. What many consider some of Doug's best ideas were decided or dreamed up by others as a way to expand the site. Ask That Guy was a committee decision, spearheaded by Mike. The Bum reviews were an attempt to link to another site. A blogger got us involved with Jersey. And you're talking to the guy who came up with the original idea for Star Trek II in 5 Seconds (which spawned the 5 second movie craze). This to not diminish Doug's insane work and talent in any way. But I always find it ironic when people complain that it's THOSE GUYS with Glasses now cause we hired some new blood. Well, really, you've been getting four people ranting all along and not realizing it. It's always been Those Guys With The Glasses to start with.

The people we've hired, as was mentioned by Film Brain, cover things that we simply can't because every single minute of the day is spent pumping out three times the amount of material we used to (for FREE, I might add -- since we're not getting paid yet). Doug does not watch anime. Guy in the Suede does. (I do too, and maybe doing a feature myself). Doug does not write film reviews (and he only sees modern ones for the Bum). Film Brain does. Doug does not do video games. Benzaie does. Spoony does.

I'd be happy to put it to a poll on this site: "Would you rather have the same amount of That Guy stuff and be forced to wait a couple days before seeing new material? Or would you rather have a bunch of other stuff to look at in the meantime, while STILL GETTING the SAME AMOUNT of That Guy goodness?" I think none of us bothered to ask cause we thought it'd be a waste of our time. The answer is obvious.

But yeah, from day one we were always going to expand to give his fans a chance to express themselves. It gives us a chance to make the site more fun and interactive. This is a community. And, I gotta be honest, WE at TGWTG.com legitimately enjoy seeing what Doug's fans come up with. It's part of what makes our time spent working here fun.

So there ya go. My two cents. :-)

Well put. I think that should conclusively end this line of argument.

The people we've hired, as was mentioned by Film Brain...

Afraid that's not me, that's Prodigs.

it's a chance to expand. Rather than just enjoy "That Guy.." whoes following his istincts. He's giving people who have the same expression of medium a chance as well.

Where as you have sites like, Redvsblue.com who were probably not the first machinimators, but the ones who popularized Halo Machinima. however they act alone in thier venture, banking off our satisfaction when they should endource Digitalph33r and the people behind "Pre-Game Lobby".

That Guy With The Glasses? He's breaking grounds that Congress and certain copyright clauses havn't touched yet. The internet is a new frontier. And the last time there was a recorded speech of a new frontier was when Kennedy gave a speach about the space race.

"We stand at the edge of a New Frontier—the frontier of unfulfilled hopes and dreams. Beyond that frontier are uncharted areas of science and space, unsolved problems of peace and war, unconquered problems of ignorance and prejudice, unanswered questions of poverty and surplus" - John F. Kennedy
