Now, in a rare occasion, I'm going to review a video game. Since I just spent the last couple of days playing Super Mario Bros 3, I feel I should write this review so as not to look back at those times spent playing the game as a waste of my time.

Overall, Super Mario Bros 3 is a pretty great game. It's a lot of fun and even when you start to threaten to kill the game at some points, it does things that allow you to forgive it. The controls are easy and not made too incredibly difficult and despite some incredibly aggravating times, it is easy enough that you don't want to smash the game against the wall in annoyance.

The graphics are also nice and colourful and it's a very clear image. And of course, the musical score is always delightful. The way it allows to choose what powers you want to use for the level is a swell idea and you're given plenty of options of what to do. And the fact that you're given more than the traditional fiery ball power giving you some variety. I especially like the raccoon power where you can kill enemies with your tail.

Speaking of the enemies, they're an interest and you have to credit the great minds at Nintendo for thinking up these devilish creatures. However, some are quite questionable. I mean, what kind of world has goldfish that kill you just by touching you? Only the Mushroom Kingdoom. And why they want to kill a lowly plumber is especially confusing. There were points when a fish killed me (and those things sure are swift and quick little buggers) and I talked to the screen, asking:

"Why? Why would you want to kill me? King Koopa must be really paying you a nice sum? Come on, how much is he paying it? I would double it and maybe throw in the name of my drug dealer. Although, you probably already know Toad anyway."

What I found especially funny about the enemies is the fact that Koopa's seven children are so incredibly easy to beat. You just jump on them three times and they move slowly enough that you manage to do it without flinching. Even when they are holding the magic wand in their hand and shooting different spells, they are still incredibly easy to hit. Hell, not once did a spell hit me and plenty of things were hit me throughout the course of the game.

I have to say, though, that the most annoying enemy in the whole game is that little cloud thing that shooting little orange balls at you. He was probably the thing that killed me the most. And even when I killed it, the little monster just kept coming back and back and back and back again.

I also didn't care for when it deverted from the traditional "jump on the enemies" idea and have you figuring out how the hell to get out of the level by hiding the exit very secretly. It was because of this that I pretty much gave up in the middle of the seventh world (and seeing as there are eight worlds in the entire game, it's still pretty impressive how far I got, considering I don't play video games all that much).

Overall, it is a very enjoyable and truly great video game and I still stay that the Super Nintendo (along with Nintendo 64) is the greatest video game system in the world and I don't think anything will ever come along that will come close to its greatness.

However, the best Super Mario game is still Super Mario 64.

I played this recently and it was just stupidly easy. But i don't remember my first experience with the game, i think it may have been a bit challenging but afterall i was a kid. And because it's one of those games you never really forget, i just fly through it far too easily.

Nonetheless it's an incredabley enjoyable game. Bit over-rated in my opinion though
