Hello! Thought I'd pop in for a moment with a brief newsbit and a sign of things to come with the Hall of Fame.
First off, thanks to all of you who voted for the Halloween Horrorfest we're in the middle of right now. I figured it was about time to reveal the winning games, one of which has already had its review published, and the other is coming this weekend. They are, in no particular order, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil, and Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly. Why FFII:CB won out over its predecessor is unknown to me, but I guess that's something I'll learn when I actually PLAY the game. :P I was surprised that none of the Silent Hill games made the top 3, but hey, there's always next year! I was also surprised to see System Shock 2 get a dozen or so votes, but SHODAN already got her time in the sun, so SS2 was disqualified.
Also, I noticed a rather warm response to mine and Chip's "Consoles that almost were" columns, with the back and forth style getting a good bit of praise. For those of you who particularly enjoyed that article, rest assured I've already got Chip on the line for another article in the near future. Who knows, maybe I'll even convince him to sign his own ass up for a spot here (the man doesn't even have email, what does THAT tell you?), and he can go all out on his own!
Also, I want to put out a call for nominations for the Gaming Hall of Fame. The ultimate goal of this project is gaming HISTORY, and history should not be decided by one man. There are games out there I've never played or even heard of that are Hall of Fame worthy, and I want to know which ones YOU think deserve to be here! The only criteria I have is this: The game must be at least 5 years old, and you have to tell me WHY it belongs. A game isn't going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame just because its "teh awesome", I need to know WHY it deserves to be there. I'll respond to every suggestion/request/criticism/helpful hint, so don't be afraid to sound off! Just send me a personal message, or leave a post in the "Gaming Hall of Fame Suggestions" thread in the forums. (its in the Video Gaming sub board).
And finally, here's a preview of what's to come in the Hall of Fame once the October festivities have passed! Ladies and Gentlemen, the upcoming honorees in the Hall of Fame!:
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Kingdom Hearts
Doom
The 8-bit Megaman games.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Metroid
And in other, non-Hall of Fame goodness! (which me and Chip have come to dub "Mighty Lists"):
Mightiest Women in Games
Games that will make you cry
Most useless and most useful gaming weapons
Most Nostalgic Videogames (Which Chip and I've already decided is going to top off AT LEAST at 31 because-as Chip puts it-"A number as puny as 11 cannot HOPE to contain a list so mighty!")
We will also see a list of the most terrifying video game monsters later tonight, and this weekend we honor the second Reader's Choice Horror Game, Resident Evil. We'll examine both the Playstation original, and the Gamecube remake this saturday.
Thanks again to all of you who've stopped by to read and enjoy! I appreciate your readership, as well as any and all comments/questions/constructive criticisms! The more feedback I get, the more I can learn how to improve my columns for the community!
