Dream until your dreams come true
"I have a dream". One of the most famous statements in American history. Like Mr. King, I too have a dream. It won’t change history or bring peace between races, but it’s a dream none the less. My dream is to finish Monsters. A harmless dream that means a lot to me. Yet during the course of filming Monsters 2, people ridiculed me for this dream. They said it was stupid and called the movie junk, claimed I was segregating friends, and said I was obsessed. I was attacked because I was passionate and truly cared about something. It would have been easy to give up, and most people probably would have loved to see me fail. But I remained strong, and am one movie short of seeing my dream come true. Will I be attacked while filming this last movie? Probably. Few people understand how much I care about this. They just see it as something they can use as a means to tease me. But I will finish my dream, and there will deliver a nice big middle finger to all those who mocked me.
If Monsters taught me anything, it’s to follow your dreams. Yes, people will try to talk you out of it. Don’t listen to them. It’s your dream, not theirs. The only one who can give up on it is you. People mocked George Lucas when he created the concept of Star Wars. But he had faith in his dream and created one of the greatest film sagas known to man. One of my favorite film series (Saw) started just as Monsters did, an independent film project by some college kids. Now I’m not saying that Monsters is the next Star Wars. But at least we are out doing something productive and trying to create new things. If we were not motivated by our dreams to create new things, history would never change and life would be boring. So if you have a dream, no matter how small, then go for it. And to hell with anyone who puts you down. It’s your dream. Make it happen. You just might change the world.
