Another Batman movie (Warning: THE DARK KNIGHT spoilers)?

Max

We are now living in a day and age where making pointless movie sequels is common. We’ve been given two Mummy sequels, Terminator 3, five more sequels (excluding the third) after Halloween II where Michael Myers somehow resurrected after being burnt alive, an announced sequel to the remake of Hairspray and - you get the idea.

So, it has been rumoured that a fourth instalment will be made in the latest Batman saga (fourth because of Batman: Gotham Knight, which was made before The Dark Knight). If this rumour is true, then I’m half-disappointed; The Dark Knight was a very good movie and I loved how it ended with (spoiler starts here) Batman on the run and everyone in Gotham turning against him. In my opinion, ending the movie with the hero turned into a villain (end of spoiler) is brilliant, which makes me think that there is no need for another sequel, no matter how many super villains we have excluded from the saga so far. If a sequel isn’t made, then it makes The Dark Knight more thought provoking.

But apart from that, I’ll have to admit that I’d be a liar to say that a part of me is not anticipating for another instalment. Christopher Nolan has given us a very good saga. So good that you just want more and more - but then again, I kind of don’t.

Do you want another Batman sequel?

I would LOVE to have another Batman sequel. Hopefully, they'd include a bigger place for the Scarecrow than before which he played a second role to Rahs and only a brief camero in Dark Knight.

Also, with the rumors of Johnny Depp portraying the Riddler, I wouldn't mind a Riddler/Scarecrow combo.

Harley Quinn HAS to be the next big villain.
Here, I got this from Wikipedia (Shuddup...It's good MOST of the time...) It's the origin of Harley Quinn, and would Definitely work in the movie:
Arkham psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel ponders whether the Joker may in fact be faking insanity so as to avoid the death penalty. As she tries to treat the Joker, he recounts a tale of an abusive father and runaway mother to gain her sympathy. She falls hopelessly in love with him and allows him to escape Arkham several times before she is eventually exposed. Driven over the edge with obsession, she becomes Harley Quinn, Joker's accomplice and on-and-off girlfriend.

As for an actress, the name Helena Bonham Carter's been thrown around the site a bit, but it might not work...

Also, regarding Penguin, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, or Catwoman:

Prior to the release of The Dark Knight in 2008, screenwriter David Goyer ruled out using the Penguin or Catwoman as a villain in a future film, preferring to use antagonists from the comic that had not yet been portrayed on the big screen

(Yes, it's also from Wiki...)
...So, yeah.
Someone start the List of Batman villains!!

Yes, Harley Quinn would be a perfect villain for the next film. She has never portrayed in live-action form and aside from fans of the animated series and comics, she's not incredibly well known, which is a shame.

Incidentally, I'm currently writing a Batman screenplay (though not a sequel to The Dark Knight) and Harley Quinn and Joker are the main villains in it with Pamela Isley also having a small role. However, it's closer to the animated series than the live-action films.

I think The Riddler should be in the next film, he fits Nolan's vision. And I don't think The Joker should be in the next film, I mean who could possibly top Heath Ledger? They should just write him out all together.

I think it'd be pretty easy to write Joker in, but only as a cameo. Let's just say Scarecrow and Riddler teamed up and are giving Batman a hard time. Since these two together more or less match up with the Joker's insanity, they could have Batman visit Joker in an asylum or something. They won't show Joker's face and he'd more or less be a shadowed figure (thus not ruining the image set mby Heath). Batman is basically forced to ask for Joker's help, but Joker refuses. When Batman decides that the attempt is futile, he leaves, allowing Joker to do his signature laugh... sort of like a last laugh.

Not a very big role, but ties up any loose ends on Joker's part.

That still requires an actor to play The Joker. Again, it's going to hard to find a replacement.
