10 Best Songs of the Past 10 Years from the Perspective of a Man who Hates New Music

I'm going to list what I think are the ten best songs of the last ten years. This could be very subjective and silly, except that I hate all new music. So it'll be very silly. I'm twenty. I only like music made between the years 1960 and 1990, and I like all music between those years. It really sucks, because I missed all the good concerts and album releases. I'm always open to the possibility of new music being good, but it's not. It's not appealing to me at all, and I don't care how much you like Greenday or Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Orgasm or all that shit. As one of the many people who has been dissatisfied with music starting in the 90s (my whole life), maybe some of you can relate to this list, or take suggestions from it. Also, only English songs, cause otherwise I could probably make a list with just JRock.
#10: The Killers - Mr. Brightside![]()
This is whiny emo crap at its finest. Or worst. Not sure how that works, but the point is it may suffer from a bad genre but it's catchy as hell. The lyrics are decent, in a dark way, and the song just has a good flow to it. I'd be inclined to say that The Killers made this song on accident, but aside from having a name that isn't retarded; The Killers are actually a decent band. They have a few good songs actually ("When you were Young", "Somebody Told Me"), I know other old fashioned guys that like them besides myself, and more importantly most scene kids I know don't think too much of them. Well, an enemy of my enemy...
#9: No Doubt - Hella Good
One thing about new bands, especially new pop bands, especially new pop bands with female singers, is that they try to be as obnoxious as possible. Bless Fergie's little heart, she tries so hard to obnoxious with this song with so many alternative sound effects, but she accidently made a song that is actually pretty damn catchy. It sounds more like it was made in the 80's, which for a guy like me is a good thing. Now, No Doubt has made a few good songs, but they were mostly covers of old songs with little changes. Fergie, it's not your song, don't you forget. It's not your song, you covered it.
#8: Paul Stanley - Live to Win
Maybe it's cheating to include a song by a member of my all time favorite band, but let's face it; Live to Win isn't nearly as good as Paul Stanley's old stuff. It's got a mind-blowing great chorus sure, and is right at home between Eye of the Tiger and You're the Best Around, but the rest of the song is pretty laughable. Still, I can find myself listening to it pretty easily, and if it's good enough for South Park (who make most of their own music), it's good enough for me.
#7: Vanessa Carlton - A Thousand Miles
Remember what I said about women and pop? Here's a song that defies the obnoxious rule. Sure, it's a little girly but I'm not above that (look me in the eye and tell me that (look me in the eyes and tell me you hate Cyndi Lauper, I dare you). This song utilizes piano, the best instrument in the world, in a very good way. It also has more than decent string usage, and is a pretty beautiful song when taken all together. You wouldn't hear AC/DC on a jewelry commercial, after all.
#6: The Fray - How to Save a Life![]()
According to Wikipedia, The Fray is an alternative band. I don't know what the hell that means, but if it's an alternative to Emo or Punk, then it can't be too bad. Sure enough, How to Save a Life is pretty good. It's founded on a good piano background like A Thousand Miles, but holds your attention better. The lyrics are very emotionally charged, and even though it sometimes sounds like the kind of music they'd play during a bionicles commercial, it's hard to dislike this song.
#5: Akeboshi - Wind
"But vonFiedler, you contradictory shitstabber, you said only English songs!". Ah, but this is an English song. Engrish, to be exact. Oh sure, Akeboshi may not say everything right and the lyrics may not make 100% total sense, but it's still a song with above average lyrics and even better instrumentals. You may know this as the extremely fitting first ending theme to Naruto, but you probably don't seeing as it was never aired in America. Imagine that, they censored the ENGLISH THEME SONG. Oh well. Now, I could list a few other Engrish songs, but this will be my only one. Still, if you want to hear one that is hilariously bad, check this one out: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=6UDvxkvVi24&feature=related
#4: Coldplay - Viva la Vida![]()
With downright forceful string sections, how could I dislike Viva la Vida? Another alternative band, but this time the band is an alternative to shitty American made music. Yeah, I'm American, and there are exceptions to the following rule, but good music comes from Britain. Aside from catchy and well done instrumentals, Viva la Vida also has fairly epic lyrics. This is the most recent song on my list, as recent as this year, so it's nice that there are still a few good songs coming out even now,
#3: DragonForce - Through the Fire and Flames![]()
It's almost a token inclusion on any nerd's list, but as a guy who both dislikes new music and metal, I feel it's worth commenting on. It seems more like a Glam Metal song, with more Glam than Metal, but I digress, it's certainly a song reaches across genre boundaries. With good and understandable lyrics, epic guitar solos out the ass, and none of that bullshit you'd expect from a metal song, Through the Fire and Flames is just downright amazing. There's good reason that it's become a cult classic.
#2: Massive Attack - Teardrop![]()
This may be reaching back, but I did say last ten years, so this qualifies. Plus, it's only become somewhat popular over in the states over the last few years, with its use as the opening for House. It's fitting too, and the song itself is just amazing. It's so New Wave in its execution you could call it pretentious, but who cares? This is a mesmerizing song using just about every good instrument you could ask for. The vocals are bizarre, but the song is unique and that's what makes it great.
#1: The Servant - Cells
Chances are you haven't heard of this song, but you've heard it. Used in The Transporter 2 and in the commercials for Sin City, this song starts with the sort of slow funky sound you'd hear from Showdown. It slowly builds up, adding more instruments, and then just lets loose with an energetic and lively guitar chorus that screams of awesome. Even though it's a love song, it seems far more at home in an action movie. Sadly, The Servant have disbanded before ever doing a concert in America. It's sad, because I would have been all over that.

I disagree with most of the list, but it's well-written, so I'll give you Bonus Points for that.
Also, it's you're opinion, and I respect that...
