While at comic con, I also attended a screening of the first 3 episodes of the new Wolverine and the X-Men seires. Now, I love the X-Men. I am not super hardcore, but I am a big fan. I enjoyed the 90's television show alot and found the different X-Men: Evolution great. That said, I couldn't wait to see this show . Was my anticipation justified? I'll tell you. In a word: yes.

The show opens with the X-Men established and while Wolverine has joined them in the past, he is kind of a lone wolf and likes to do his own thing. This causes tension between him and the other X-Men. Particularly Rouge. While he is away, a force strikes the X Mansion, leaving it in ruins and taking Charles Xavier and Jean with it. This force is unidentified and mysterious in nature.

After that, the X-Men all go their seperate ways, until Wolverine and Beast join together to try to form the X-Men once again, because there is a war coming and the world needs the X-Men. The setup is nothing too astounding, but it is interesting seeing the tension and how different characters react to the notion of once again joining the X-Men.

Scott, for instance is in depression and wants nothing to do with it. Iceman, on the other hand could not be happier to join, but his parents who are anti-mutant forbid it. It is an interesting aspect that should get better as the show goes on.

There are many, many X-Men featured in this show. The first 3 episodes focused on Wolverine, Beast, Angel, Rouge, Shadowcat, Cyclops, Forge and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Of course, there were cameos by Magneto, Nightcrawler, Collosus, Storm and many others that are sure to have bigger roles as the series progresses. I just could of done with a little more Nightcrawler and Gambit for good measure.

Overall, this is a good start to what could be a great series. The animation, tone and story are all done well enough to assure that this should become a much welcome addition to the X-Men franchise. It is not perfect, due to some questionable plot points and nothing too interesting in the premire, but pilots are rarely as good as what is to follow. For that, the first three episodes get:

7 out of 10 (With almost certain improvement to come)

Thanks for reading and comment if you wish. Until next time.

From what you showed it's looking good. Looks like they went for a darker, more mature feel this time around. Can't wait.
