Lucky number seventh part, again I still can't believe I have material for this, and once again everything that I am going to say is 100% true.
Know who to talk to
Now I know I am not the best at retail, but in a store like this there is a cardinal rule, hit the parents. All kids want to do while in the store is play games, that's it. The parents are in there because they want to wait until the kids want to get out. The key to get a sale is to convince the kids that a) they want the game they want to play and b) they want it NOW!
This is an art form to do since parents do not want to spend money, but if you know how to gently push the I want this button, most will bend over and get it right there for a reward for something. Also, if the parent lets me know that a special event is coming (i.e. birthday, holiday, anniversary, etc.) I would try to let the kid (or adult) tell them what they want and why.
Perfect example, I had a guy come in with his kid and his friend. Dad stood next to me while the kid was playing asked me for help on which Xbox he should get. At that point I looked at the kid looking at the game and told him that he could try the game, of course the kid bought it and said that he didn't have the system. Dad and I did a dance where I asked him why he wants the system and what games he would want to get. Once he went back to game playing I told him what system to get, what accessories to get and having it ready for him to pick up the next day. Ah I love it when I have a Dad to overspend for a kid's birthday.
In the World of Retro
Now if you read any of the past articles I have written you know that I am a retro gamer. I love old games and most of the new stuff is something I can not get into. I am not saying it is bad, just not my thing. Now when a store opens up that has a opinion to buy back stuff how long does it take to get a decent selection?
Two weeks.
Once word got around that games can be bought back people came in with their crap, including me. Yea I helped the store out with bring in titles which are crap that I would get in lots. Mike Krzyzewski NCAA Basketball anyone?* Didn't think so. What is the amazing thing about all this, that shitty game got sold!
Yea I couldn't believe it either, apparently people who do not know about the VAST amount of retro store will buy any crap that will come in a store that is close to them. Knowing this I was stunned how a guy could sell a Dreamcast game for 2 bucks only to realize I could buy the game and sell it to another guy for 10 times the amount.
Note to those wanting to make a quick buck GET ON THIS IDEA! Also some really weird trade in come through, like someone traded their Wii console just so they can get a Dreamcast without the AV cable...why would someone do this I don't know since I got mine on-line without cables with box for a mere 15 bucks. I would spend the trade in credit on something slightly better personally.
That is all you get in this part, in the next installment you will see more thing I do not agree with the store about, stay tuned.
*If you leave a comment telling me what system it is on I will mention you in an upcoming article.

The only thing i can think of for the Mike Krzyzewski NCAA Basketball game is the Coach K College Basketball game for Sega Genesis. That game was brutal.
