Here we go again! You know the drill I am telling the honest to goodness truth about what you are about to read so without further adu.
Game Review time
Yup I mentioned it in the last article and this time it is no different first off is Da Blob which can be summarized as:
Simple platforming at its messiest.
Now if you are to go to a review site they might blame the controls to be bad, in actually the controls are very simple...almost too simple. Some complex moves that you want to do (jump from one side of a building to another across the street) is next to impossible to do, all you can do is roll, slam, and move. If you stay within those constraints you will be fine. The "mood" of Da Blob will determine the music and paint designs that you will use in the game, the mini games range from simple to downright hair pulling depending on how far you get in the game. The time limit is very forgiving and the overall art direction is incredible, rent this one if you babysitting with a 7 year old, you will not be disappointed.
Now later on that evening I was challenged to Fight Night 3, and all I can say is:
Mike Tyson's Punch Out! is still the best boxing game
Although I will give them credit for making it as realistic as possible. There is no HUD, you have to look on your boxer to determined where he is injured and how much stamina he has on him. Honestly I didn't get it myself, I didn't know what to look for so I pretty much got my behind served to me on a platter. What I can say is that if you are into realistic sports games go for this one, you will have to train (like any other boxer) to know what signs to look for, but you will have an awesome time with this game. Hardcore gamers need to apply only.
Company issues I disagree with
Ah yes I was waiting a while before bring this up, so here we go with some things I personally do not agree with in the store policies:
- My kid gets first say - Now the Owner of the store has a Kid who comes in with the Owner from time to time. Ok, no problem if I were a kid and my Parent had a video game store, I would do the same thing. The Owner tells me that the Kid can play whatever he wants on the consoles on display, again no issue. Now if he is playing a game on a console and a customer were to come in and want to play a game on that same console, the Owner tells me they would have to wait until the Kid is done playing the game in order for them to get on.
Does anyone else see this as a big deal? I mean granted I could understand letting your kid play on the games when no one is around, but to tell a customer they have to wait until the owner's Kid is done? I mean that is just giving the customer a bad store experience right there, and if he is "into" a game it might be a while before he wants to get off. I personally don't agree with this policy as the store stands right now. This leads me into....
- If you have them, use them! - In the store there are 8 HDTVs, 4 of them are being used. That's right instead of buying 2 of each console (360, PS3, Wii, and PS2), the Owner wants to use just one for the moment. Now I understand that the store just opened and money is tight, you don't want to spend more on something that is not going to be utilized. However when the store gets busy and there are people waiting to get onto a particular console to play a game, you need to be ready and prepared to handle the load. This would avoid the prior situation above since there will be a spare console for them to play on, and it will prevent the next item from happening:
- If it is broken....FIX IT! - Like I said we have one of each console, so when one goes down it should be a top priority to go and fix it. The cable for the Xbox 360 broke, ok fine get another one, problem solved. Nope, the Owner wants to wait until either one gets traded in (which I can almost guarentee is not going to happen) or until the Owner gets another brand from her supplier. Now if there were two consoles I wouldn't have an issue with this, but since we are only using one this becomes a big issue. If someone wants to try a game before buying it on the 360, they can't because the cable is broke...guess what that is a lost sale opportunity right there. Suck up the pride, go to the store upstairs, get a cable, and get it working again.
Now if you think that is interesting wait until you see part 7, things get REALLY interesting there.
