Day one done, how could I follow that up? Well here is day two, Sunday, with a shorter shift. Will the wackiness continue? Just to reiterate everything I am saying is 100% the truth, the names have been changed to protect the innocent.
Here come the incentives...
So new day, new experiences. I get in and the first thing I have to do is simply resurface some discs, reseal the boxes, and place them on the shelfs. Now I told you about the resealing, now it is the resurfacing.
This process is tricky, because if you really screw up, you ruin the disc. So careful attention needs to be made when doing this. Step 1 is to look at the disc and determine the damage, if it is light you note this and remember to put it in for less time, the heavier it is, the potential you need to crack out the sandpaper to do the job (no I am serious). Step 2 is to grab the sponge and place it into the machine. For this one we are using the blue one since blue is a heavier concentration, and will wear the disc down more quickly. Once inside you place a dab of the blue solution on it and spread it around using a flat edge (cardboard in my case). Step 3 is to place the CD on the mount, tighten it in and close the lid. This is an armless unit which makes life a hell of a lot easier. Step 4 is to press the button for the time you determined and watch it spin in machine. Step 5 is to open it back up and swap sponges again, this time going with the white one and re-dabbing that with the white solution. Step 6 is to press the button and watch it spin again, you will repeat this until the disc looks brand new. Step 7 is to take the CD out of the machine and hold it about an arm length and stray it with the buffing solution. Step 8 is to press down once, getting a light mist to cover the disc. Step 9 is to quickly use a shammy to rub the mist off the disc. You need to be quick here because if you are too slow the solution will solidify and you need to start all over again.
Wasn't that fun? Since the machine does 2 discs at a time it can go by quickly, but you are in a mad rush to hurray it out since you can not reseal the case until the CD is filed (alphabetically mind you) in the shelf behind the counter. Now for those who are curious, the cost of this is $2 per disc, if we can't get it to look like new there is no charge. Honestly this is awesome way to preserve your games and CDs, however I still prefer dealing with PCB boards, they are more reliable. Now to encourage us to "sell sell sell" we are having a contest. Whoever can get the most amount of people to do the disc resurfacing will get an additional $50 bucks. Nice, too bad I only work 2 days a week, the full timers have a better change at gunning for it, however I have a trick or two up my sleeve...
Some game reviews?
When I was filing them back on the shelf I noticed that EVERY console had the force unleashed playing, and the people were enthralled by it. I mean for a store like this the game works, since level one is all they really play.
For those who have not tried it, level one is when you control Darth Vader with almost unlimited force powers, and almost unlimited health, beating the tar of every wookie in sight. You could go and use your light saber, but most people prefer to pick them up and throwing them off a cliff, or pushing a wobbly bridge to make them fly into the air and strike them down with a thrown light saber attack. I tried it and actually played level two, which most people don't do. Because of this I can sum up the game in my old one sentence review style:
This is River City Ransom in space without the fun.
I give this one a rental at best, but if you are into repeatedly throwing people against walls, this is the game for you. Now another game that I did try out with Mario Super Sluggers for the Wii, and in one sentence I can tell you that:
This is a hell of a lot better then Wii Sport's Baseball.
I know that isn't saying much but it is true. Nintendo tried to bridge the gap between the casual and hardcore in this one. For the casual you can randomly select a team, randomly choose your opposing team, and quickly get into the game. For the hardcore you can look at each characters stats, and place them in the proper position on the field to maximize the team asskickingness. Now once in a game they completely lose you since they had to throw in some gimmicks (that can be turned off thank goodness), first there is a star move which turns your character in a super saiyan for a pitch or bat and if connected properly does something to the field of play. The running is done automatically however wagging the wiimote will make the runner go faster. Same goes for the outfield, what did you expect to be able to switch players and run in a particular direction? Also the fields have some gimmicks on them, like plants that will make you dizzy or barrels that will trip you up. However there is a generic baseball field for the purists. Should you get this game? Yes, but I say wait for the price to drop on it first.
Wait so what happened in the store?
I am getting to it man, gheeze. Well like I said it was a shorter shift, and unless you are into the completion of the Playstation 2 section, and if you are you need to do something else besides reading this. However there were 3 highlights of the day. First my coworkers went and played guitar hero for the first time (no not kidding we all never played it). They were on easy and doing OK for someone not knowing what to do, and then she showed up. Sammi the rocker came in and challenged one of the coworkers, she was on expert, he was on easy, she kicked his ass.
As for sales I had a nice trend, used games. Now I know people in the past are bitching about buying used games as of late, and I will do a special rant about that soon, however for now I will say that used games sales are awesome for the person who sells them since used games means more profit.
However I also got a phone sale, this is what makes this store unique. If you were to bring in your cell phone, we buy it from you and give you store credit which we take said phone, sell it to a company, and get the money back. So what we are doing is giving you half of what you could get, since it is store credit, which forces you to buy something in the store, and we try to you buy used so that we make even more money off of you. Awesome isn't it?
That is it for the moment, stay tuned for part 5 where a week will have went by, and shit REALLY hits the fan.
