Coldguy Predicts: MLB 2009 Postseason
Written by Coldguy Wednesday, 07 October 2009 00:50
Tie Breaker Game: Detroit Tigers v Minnesota Twins
Now I am not going to lie: both teams should already be eliminated from contention, however since I am not a grand wizard I am going to go out on a limb and say that the lesser of the two teams will lose this one and the Tigers will choke. Why? Well if you lose 2 out of 3 to the White Socks before getting into this, then you are not going to stand a chance going on the road and getting your division.WINNER: Minnesota Twins
NLDS Match 1: Philadelphia Phillies v Colorado Rockies
Who is going to hold serve: the hot team or the defending champs. Now Colorado's front office made the move of the year by firing their manger early on in the season to scrounge a comeback that will impress anyone, it is not going to be enough to win this five game series. The Phillies are deep, how deep? The only two issues they have is the closer and who is going to take the 25th spot on the playoff rotation. When you are locked and loaded like that there is no question: Phillies win in 4.WINNER: Philadelphia Phillies
NLDS Match 2: St. Louis Cardinals v Brooklyn
Los Angles Dodgers
Talk about peaking at the wrong time, the only reason the Dodgers are even in this spot is that they peaked early. Sure Manny wasn't there for the first 50 games, but that doesn't mean you can sleep after the all star break. They were two games away from being the wild card and the Cardinals will take full advantage of this. St. Louis in a 3 game sweep!WINNER: St. Louis Cardinals
ALDS Match 1: Boston Red Sox v Los Angles Angels of Anaheim (Orange County)
Do I even need to tell you why Boston is going to win? Angels' kryptonite has been Boston in recent history, going to play out the same away again. Boston in 4.WINNER: Boston Red Sox
ALDS Match 2: New York Yankees v Minnesota Twins
Sorry Minnesota, you played your way back into the playoff picture, however all good things must come to an end. The big money will go and sweep here, the talent for the New Yorkers is too much for the Minnesotans to handle. New York will sweep in 3.WINNER: New York Yankees
NLCS: Philadelphia Phillies v St. Louis Cardinals
Sure the 1-2 punch is better in St. Louis, however remember that depth I was telling you about earlier? Expect to see a nice combination of Blanton, Martinez and Happ surprise the main rotation and pitch around the machine himself. Also defensively Phillies are better by a long shot. Philadelphia in 5.WINNER: Philadelphia Phillies
ALCS: New York Yankees v Boston Red Sox
Congratulations MLB! You have your dream playoff scenario to boost the ratings sky high, and this is going to be a good series. In the past Boston had been taking it to New York in the recent playoffs, however this regular season had New York dominating over their rivals in the regular season. This is going to go the distance and my lucky coin has landed on heads which means New York will get the nod this time.WINNER: New York Yankees
World Series: New York Yankees v Philadelphia Phillies
Defending champs vs the evil empire. This series is going to kick ass! Not just due to the fact everyone outside of New York would want to see a repeat, but for the fact that each team dominates over the flaw of the other. Sure Rivera is the greatest closer ever, but you can't argue with the fact that the stars of the Phillies have gotten it done when the time comes last year. I predict a six game series in which we shall see the Phillies bats and heart triumph over the mighty dollar, yes folks I am calling the repeat!WORLD F$#% CHAMPIONS: Philadelphia Phillies

I don't watch baseball but even so you have to root for your hometown. So go Phillies.

Nope I have a rooting interest in the flyers, the NL is on a down year anyway, and since the Dodgers (who have the best record) is considered the long shot. My guess is Phillies with NL easy.
The AL was tougher since Boston and New York always come up with surprises, however game 7 in NY, can't go against that with the rotation they have.
World series is a toss up, gut tells me Manuel will out manage Giradi and will peace meal line ups game by game with the motivation techniques he used last year. Do I have them as the end all best team? Heck no, however in a series taking into consideration the depth of either team, Phillies have the edge.

Alright man, at least you used a little bit of logic in your declaration of the awesomeness of Cheesecake land.

I am a rather new Phillies fan (after being a Yankees fan for many years, moved and stopped caring much about baseball), so I support the repeat. Sure, some of this playoff will be unpredictable, but that'll make it more fun. The only thing I know will remain the same is that my brothers will root against any team I support.

As a Twins fan I can only hope your predictions fail. But you do bring up some good arguments about the Yankees.

Im sorry, i personally don't like the Yankees because they BUY all of their talent, but this year their team is just way too strong. A-Rod and CC are performing well so far in the playoffs, and guys like Jeter, Cano, Melky, Matsui, and Damon are having arguably their best offensive seasons yet.

Looks like you were wrong about LA in both leagues. It's cool no one saw it coming.

Damn it you were right. The Yankees swept the Twins *shakes fist*
At least I still have football and hockey to watch

The Dodgers owned them and are now in the NLCS.
