I see your potential, but there were a couple of problems with your video. The first problem was your accent. I understand you can't change it, but there were many times I just couldn't understand you (especially when you talked for long periods of time). I have seen many French movies and understand that you guys have a habit of talking fast, but it's frustrating when you're speaking in English. I suggest you replace those French subtitles with English ones and problem solved. The second problem is that tv screen behind you, I found that to be a distraction and suggest to either turning it off or just having a plain wall like the nostalgia critic and the suede dude use. Other than those complaints, your video was really well made and your humor reminds me alot of the NC (which is a good thing since I enjoy his witty humor).

Well, this will be my first comment.
Found this place out of the nerd when the "War" started... (was amusing to see the fanboys freak) when it was rather obvious that it was more play fighting and an exchange of traffic...

I apologize, now to get to the point.

Review is alright, I played the game on PC and found it VERY GOOD... so good pic.
I have had no problem understanding him but then again I am good with ehhh I think that was a middle eastern / France Accent.. Not sure if it's real or not.

I found the TV Background and teaspoon of arabic music rather interesting, The Jap versions helarious and of course... I LOVE YOU SEGA SATURN....

Looking forward to seeing what more he can bring us.

In short, I was entertained.

Maybe its because I am one of the "non thatguys", but I think that the idea of ThatGuy using his website to help push new talent is a great one. If you don't like the videos, fine, you can avoid them, but there are plenty others that do. Opinions are subjective, and while you may not enjoy a video, someone else will. And bare in mind these are new shows, and they will probably take a little while to find their niche. All things do, even the Nostalgia Critic (go back and watch the early videos in order and watch the show evolve in terms of format and gags as it found it's niche), and it's only a question of when they will find it.

If they wanted to have JUST ThatGuy's videos, they easily could.

But personally, I think it's awesome that they're slowly building this massive site with so many things to keep you entertained.

People need to stop complaining about Ben's accent. I was actually surprised at how good it was. It's even better than mine, and I'm born in Canada (though I am Polish).

Nice, I really like the feel of this review. Reminds me of watching the regular video game show on the German French channel without understanding a thing (of course this time it's a lot easier).

Actually it's really interesting that this version looks nicer than the PC version I played, since the Duke3D engine's port on the Saturn had it's advantages (dynamic lights, the slight tilt when turning etc).

But as if I was not amused enough, I hear and see "Hunter" on the Amiga... I can't wait!! The game is like abstract art or an intriguing semi-nightmare.

Honestly, I decided to give him a shot because there is something about his videos that I find interesting. Yes they are different, but geez people. This is his first video that I posted on the site. Give him a chance. A lot of people went off on ThatDudeWithTheSuede, and now after just 1 episode; people that hated him, are now praising him. I'm going to give Benzaie a good chance (4 or so videos) to see how he improves. Hopefully you all do the same, because like I said before, I do find his style interesting.

Okay that is a fair point and I would like to give him a chance, but there are thousands of AVGN fans/ripoffs that make their own videos in an attempt to be as popular. And if you give them all a chance this site will become Youtube's bastard child. Now I dont know anything about this guy, but from the video, he just seemed like the typical AVGN ripoff. However, if he already has made a name for himself and has a lot of fans, then feel free to post them here. Heck I'll propably check them too to see if he is anything other than a ripoff.
Some constructive criticism to him though:
1) Lose the french subs (unless this is made for solely to french viewers, in which case he should speak french and have english subs)
2) Improve the audio quality
3) Slow down

PS: Im all for giving everyone a chance. For example, I didnt like Nostalgia Critic's Transformers review, which was his first. But I gave him a chance, and now he is one of my favourite among AVGN and Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw from Zero Punctuation.

I thought Benzaie was pretty humorous, myself. I thought he spoke pretty clear English. The only real issue was, as stated above, is that the music volume is a bit too high.

I'll suspend judgment until future videos.

Here's what I think Ben did right:

1) Imitations. I think Ben should explore this more. I laughed really hard when he played the clip of the AVGN theme and then appeared dressed as the Nerd.

2) Several clips and graphics. I just don't like staring at someone for long periods without breaking it up with video examples, etc.

3) Unique genre. Very few people attempt a humorous take on GOOD games. A noble pursuit, if nothing else.

Here's what I think Ben could work on:
1) Slow down, or enunciate better. I know the accent makes this unnatural, but you have to consider your audience.

2) Subtitles. Have them in English, or don't have them at all. French subtitles just make the difficulty to understand worse. Again, consider your audience. If Ben is posting to a french website also, it makes sense to have those videos include the subtitles. But when posting here, he should delete them, or (preferably) include English subs.


We'll see how future videos work out. Obviously TGWTG is the gold standard here among the fans, so it's tough to stand up against him. But, with some corrections, I think Ben has a great shot at landing critical acclaim here.

Ive sat back and reserved judgement for the time being. I just want to see more of his work and fully apreciate what he's all about before i make any comments, which otherwise would kind of be unfair at this point.

What i do what to comment on is the people who have knocked this guy without giving him a fair chance. There are some incredabley close minded people who think that this site belongs to them. Say what you will, I think Benzaie's videos have been pretty entertaining so far. Granted, some of the jokes are hit-or-miss, but thanks to the fast pacing, the ones that aren't as good don't really stand out all that much. As for him being unintelligible, personally I don't have much of a problem understanding what he says, and English is a second language to me as well (as you might be able to tell at this point).

Chances are, with better audio quality and some volume fine-tuning things will improve a lot. And frankly, while his accent may be pretty thick, his actual command of the English language seems commendably decent to me, especially as learning a foreign language can be pretty tough in a francophonic country - they actually have laws that ban English loanwords from most media, so outside school you don't get into contact with the language at all.* I even used to think that the mistake in the title (games you DON'T might know) was put there deliberately.

Still, I have to agree that there could be more actual information about the games in the videos, especially as they are picked mostly because of their obscurity.

Finally, to address those who find that there should be no new artists on the site: Well, duh, that's the reason why there is site structure. If you don't like the work of Benzaie or That Dude In The Suede or whatever, just do not visit their respective categories. (@admin: Some sort of customizable newsletter or notification system might contribute to that.)

As for you, Mr. Benzaie, I see a lot of potential in you. This is mostly me, but I did have some trouble understanding you. But I have problems understand English sometimes. It's part of my slightly failing hearing. I have to watch some things several times before it snaps and I go "Oh that's what he was saying". As has been said before, English subtitles would be a good idea. Maybe you could make one with English and one with French subtitles? You can probably also make the subtitles slighly smaller. The current ones take up quite a bit of the screen.

From what I could understand, it was funny. Especially that beginning part. "But, isn't the Sega Saturn - AAAAAAAAAGH!" Classic. The main problem seems to just be that language barrier. And there are always ways around that. You are mostly understandable (for normal people. Not for people like me who get pulled over because they can't hear the sirens behind them. ) so it's just a little fix. Keep up the good work.

I actually thought his review was rather interesting and I did chuckle at a few parts. I think the biggest problem the video suffered overall, however, was that it went too fast. If he slowed down a bit more it would be easier to both understand him and to figure out just what exactly is going on.

Personally this video felt like a NC review on steroids, the super fast pace and the quick talking fit perfectly with his high enthusiasm and obsession for the game, though the backlash for me personally would be that its hard to take him seriously in any respect, though it doesn't matter since by the end I've already fallen out of my seat laughing. Great review, keep up the great work and please don't slow down one bit, its what makes you original and unique. And yes English subtitles 100% for those few moments where Im unsure of what you were saying exactly.

You win for two reasons:
1)You have a very different style and try to make humor differently than others, being more spontaneous.
2)You bring a lot of energy into your videos, you look like you are really enjoying yourself, and that makes it MUCH more fun to watch.

I applaud your style, and hope to see some more obscure and foreign treasures.

Also, to all you people who hate new concepts out there, I bet you all thought the Wii was really stupid too. Look how that's doing.

Despite all of these negative comments, I think that your accent is great - I probably missed a word here or there, but nothing major. If anything, the accent makes your videos stand out from the masses of dull American/British game reviewers out there. Oh, and keep the broken title, it's fun.
As for the video, the content was actually really interesting, and you brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to your review, which many reviewers lack. Sure, it was random (a bit of a sensory overload at times ), but that kept me watching.

Overall, I enjoyed it, even if it only got a few chuckles out of me. I certainly want to see more.
