Nice review!

I´m not a comic book lover myself but i always found hilarious some bizarre parts that randomly appears in some comics.

My Opinion: I think that this guy is doing something new here and would be a great addition.

Well, sorry you feel that way, Alex. I admit I've only actually seen one Irate Gamer video (his ET vid), so I'm not sure why so much hate gets tossed his way.

I'm not sure why you're saying that I said "it's all bad," when this video is addressing moments IN bad comics that are just really, really effing weird. The comics themselves were bad - these are just 15 moments that were "What is even the hell?!"

This guy was not bad in terms of entertainment, and at least I feel as though he deserves to be added to the team moreso than the latest people tested. If I could offer some advice, however, I would say to work on the cinematography and the effects. A little more music during the video might help fill in what sometimes seems like deadspace, and a more gripping transition from number to number would also give your video a bit more zest.

Actually, Xylon, I DID originally plan on adding music for each different WTF for this one. However, the idea to add music came at the last minute, so the only ones I got down were various Batman themes for the different segments. By that point, I wanted to get the video done with so I decided to just skip it.

And yeah, you're right about the cinematography, in particular the lighting. Each time I filmed the videos, I did it at night (getting home from work and/or school in the evening), and my futon is in a corner and the only lighting comes from the ceiling light, but I'm working on getting a lamp set up on the other side to aide with that.

Also thought about doing some better transitions ala the Nostalgia Critic/Chick, but sadly I currently lack the video technology to overlay text on video (working on it). Future Top 15 lists should include it, though.

Lose the other two, this guy is it!

He's got just the right sense of humor, his bullshit detector is impervious, his choice of topic is sorely lacking here and his delivery is funny as all hell. The only thing missing was a proper intro, but that's easily fixed, I'm sure.

Forget Phelous and forget Press Start. This guy is perfect for the site.

In fairness, Toru, they DO say that it cost them about $60,000 to do that test that changed it to gold (and yet according to them the power drain only dims the lights a little [they treat this like a big deal]), but a freaking alchemy machine that delivers on its promises like that has more applications beyond just golden dog turds and the fact that the government says it's "too theoretical," made my jaw drop even more.

Seriously, that was funny. I cast my vote for yes here. Admittedly I'm a little biased in favor of Linkara's medium of choice--I do love me some comics, although I'm nowhere near his level of knowledge on it. But it was well researched, funny as all get out, and darn if it didn't point out the glaring inadequacies of human beings. Not sure why I consider that a positive...

Anyway, my only REAL problem was that in a list describing the biggest WTF moments in comics, you DIDN'T include Squirrel Girl defeating villains far out of her--and indeed her entire team's--league? WTF?!

Don't know if you take requests, but do a list of the top reasons Aquaman sucks. I know, I know: "Aquaman sucks jokes are so mainstream and played out." Doesn't make them not true. Don't believe me? Read the Justice miniseries. The writers went out of their way to not just make it so they didn't have to use him much, him being a pansy was ACTUALLY PART OF THE STORY. It's golden.

Somehow the rest of my comment got cut off. I was going to say and I (heart) Squirrel Girl.

As for Aquaman, if put in the right hands, he's awesome personified. He's the King of Atlantis and by extension the ocean, meaning he rules the majority of the planet. Next, Atlantis lies at the bottom of the ocean, with pressure hundreds of times what it is on the surface, meaning he's got super strength. Same goes for vision, since the light of the sun doesn't go down that far and yet he can see just fine down there. Plus he had that cool hook for a while.

Now, in Superfriends he's a laugh a minute, though. His powers there are fish-telepathy and his jetski.

I give a hearty thumbs up to Linkara for admission to the site. He brings a knowledge of an area not deeply covered in TG's usual lineup of games and movies, and I think its the kind of variety that could spice up the daily uploads to the website. His humor's a bit on the dry side, he could use a bit of a spicing up on the punchlines, but his script as a whole is sharp and witty in terms of vocabulary. His narration is strong but his enunciation slips a bit at a few points, so I'd watch for that.

As a whole, Linkara works well, and would definitely complement what That Guy with the Glasses has already accepted into its archives.

I certainly enjoyed this video, and think this dude has potential. My only gripe is that combined with the low audio quality, his voice is a bit grating at several points. However, I think a new mic would fix that.

Ridiculous things like what was mentioned killed my flame for comic collecting. I stopped following the medium back in late 95 or 96. I don't know if I should feel embarrassed, or insulted with how much Rob Liefeld is panned today. He use to be one of my favorite artists, along with McFarlane, Platt, Keith, J. Scott Cambell, and a few more that I don't want to flood this post with back in the day. Granted his style made his male characters look like steroid junkies, and female characters look like strippers with huge breast implants running around in thongs, but he still made some really bad-ass looking costumes/get-ups. Unfortunately his creation well dried up quickly and caused his new guys to look more, and more like clones of older ones. He was also one of the first Image founding artists to almost completely stopped drawing his own various series. The most likely reason was laziness, since unlike Mcfarlane his output level was especially bare. All he would do is cover art. I remeber hearing from a lot of people who had gone to conventions and met Liefeld that he is a rude, pushy prick.So it's not hard to understand why so many dislike him.

This is the greatest thing I've seen in a long time. Seeing this suddenly makes me want to read comics... Too bad I live in Sweden so the only thing avaliable is kids comics and The Phantom.

I don't really care about the topic in this video. Possibly because the only "comics" I read are those extremely highly rated Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman graphic novels, so I've never gotten into the regular super hero stuff.
However, you really manage to deliver, and if you touch upon something that I'm more familiar with or just something a bit more universal, I can tell that I'll love it. smilies/smiley.gif

Seriously, this was pretty funny and yeah those are some pretty WTF moments. I don't really read DC Comics even though I have thought about it. I've seen the TImm helmed series from Batman onward. It did seem heavy on the DC side but it's okay. There's PLENTY of other WTFs in comics that it's hard to pick just one.

Good work with your epic top 15! I think I actually blocked out that mini Spider-clone. Good comic reviews are hard to come by and you did an awesome job.

I thought the premise was decent, and comic reviews definetly have a niche.
However, you might want to slow your talking down a little bit. You use use a lot of pitch in your voice and fast-speak makes it sound far too nervous.
Also, I thought the Top-11 conclusion sentences were a bit weak. Think about leaving those to the Critic.

Trying to catalogue all of the ridiculous, outrageous moments in comic book history is a neverending Sisyphisian cycle, but I do admire your brief list. I think Snowflame is my new favorite character in all fiction, narrowly nosing out Raskolnikov in "Crime & Punishment." :p

A few ridiculous moments I remember from my misspent youth reading comic books:

-CapWolf. When Captain America became a wolf man for a brief time.
-The Wizzer. A fast-runner-type who got his powers from injections of mogoose blood.
-Anything to do with Bat-Mite.
-When Wolverine called Sabretooth the k-word. the one that's mean to Jews. I heard later it was a misprint, although I suspect a spiteful copy editor was playing a prank on the publisher.
-Any number of villains in "Spider-Man" comics. At least four of The Sinister Six are really ridiculous.
-A villainess from the newest incarnation of "Spider-Woman" who could cough up her skeleton and fight as Skin and Bones. ... Yeah.

Snow Flame should be called Crack Man, his sidekick could be Bong Boy and his main villain could be Cold Turkey or Rehab Man. Seriously though it sounds like the character Jay and Silent Bob came up with. I would have loved to have seen this character become popular with kids.

I'm not a comic book reader, but I found that very entertaining. He has a great persona, the choices were amusing... all round... I would watch more of these. smilies/smiley.gif

I dunno I think if my hand grew back I'd probably randomly cut it off for reactions too.
I'm not that big into comics but I really enjoy the reviews of yours I've seen thus far.
I'm pretty glad Stan Lee created himself even if it is a paradox that would make little kid's heads explode. (Hey maybe that was the point!)
It's too bad Snowflame died right away but then again I guess he would burn himself out! Heh heh... sorry...
I also liked your Smoke and Mirrors Part 3 review. Gwen Stacy is Alive! J/K. Ben Reilly is the clone! J/K Peter Parker is the clone... J/K. And I loved the fact that Kain guy is watching them and then the Scrier guy is watching him watch them... and they both do nothing. Coulda used a couple more I think.
Anyway good stuff, and I like your Jackal voice too!

He seems a bit.. derivative. I see a touch of AVGN, a touch of NC... but with a hat. Perhaps it's unfair to draw comparisons but somehow I just didn't find the video THAT funny or interesting.

On the other hand, perhaps the choice of his subject put me off - I'm not a comic book buff. I guess one can relate to someone getting pissed off at a bad movie or a bad video game, but comic book, especially one from silver age.. nah. You can laugh at it, but get angry at it.. don't think so.

OR I just didn't like him that much because of recent video-reviewer overload. A while ago it was AVGN and NC. Then Spoony and Benzai, who were great. Than Nostalgia Chick, who is terrific, and the other "Chicks" who were..ok.. I guess. Now there are more new folks coming up and perhaps it's now getting a bit watered down... the new folks must be REALLY good to come up at the top, and it's getting a bit crowded up there.

However, on the positive side, Linkara's voice is a bit whiney but is not that hard to listen to and is quite fitting to these kind of reviews. I'm sure with some work on the joke delivery and editing the videos could be quite a bit better.

That was enjoyable, and in comparison to that "Press Start" flash, GEORGE CARLIN QUALITY.

Even through I can see how he mimics the style of Douglas a little bit, I don't mind that much at all. I say bring him in.

I liked all the stuff that seemed original. A ways back somebody said that it seemed like you were doing an AVGN impersonation or something like that, and it's kind of true. I really enjoyed the rest though, just be yourself man, you've got something going.

Actually, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby wrote themselves into their own Fantastic Four comics occasionally. The idea in the comic was that the Fantastic Four told them about their adventures, and it game them ideas for comic book stories. I think they gave the "real" Fantastic Four royalty checks from their comic book sales. It was meant to be goofy and tongue-in-cheek, and when used correctly it was.

Anyway, I liked the video. I had no idea there was a supervillain who got his powers by snorting cocaine. His dialog could only make sense coming from someone who was high at the time.

Black Canary is just another on of Frank Millers "babes" that are completely unnecessary to the plot, the only real reason that shes in the series to begin with is that she gives the co-creators and the readers a chub.
